Since I have been away on vacation for the last two weeks, and Arron wasn’t able to make this segment last week due to technical difficulties, I have incorporated the last two weeks into this segment. From what I have been reading it has been a very busy time for big games, with many amazing games being released over this time. I have hunted down and chosen some I feel are worthy of making this segment.

Madden NFL 10 – $9.99

Madden NFL is the football game that has controlled the console market for many years. While this game was rumored to be out to coincide with the console release, it was delayed to fine tune it and probably to improve on Gameloft’s own impressive NFL attempt with NFL 2010 which had its debut in August. Madden 10 is more of a hardcore fans game, and took a little longer to get the hang of, but is certainly one huge step up from NFL 2010, as it should be.

Madden 10 has some seriously good graphics that have a slight edge over Gameloft’s attempt. This game is more lifelike and plays like a real NFL match instead of something I could easily defeat on hard with NFL 2010. Just the ease of the controls and how well the game plays out amazes me and I have to keep reminding myself this is an iPod I am playing it on. Once again this is an amazing game that has taken the $9.99 market by storm. Another example why EA makes the best premium games on the App Store.

Blades of Fury – $6.99

Blades of Fury is once again another great graphically impressive game from Gameloft. It seems every week or two we see another huge release from these developers who just keep bringing up more and more quality games. This time Gameloft has brought us a title in a seemingly unchartered area with a kind of arcade fighter similar to Tekken 5. The game has delivered with an easy to learn game that has been suited to the touch screen and some well placed on screen buttons for a serious fighting adventure.

Blades of Fury seems like a one time game, with a bit of fighting action then it just gets old and repetitive. Luckily there are four thrilling game modes and WiFi or Bluetooth play just to bring that extra edge with some player vs player action. With many highly detailed characters and multiple levels of combat, you will find yourself dodging, charging then unleashing your special attack for many hours to come. Gameloft keep delivering amazing games and there isn’t really any reason to not pick them up.

Geodefense Swarm – $0.99

I must admit that I never bought the original Geodefense mainly due to the fact that it didn’t look like it would appeal to me, and it came out at a time when Fieldrunners and The Creeps occupied my time. I took a ping and bought the sequel which seems to have a Fieldrunners type approach in create your own path. These are alot more fun I believe and make it all that more exciting. This game is a mix of Fieldrunners with the many Creeps levels with Geodefense graphics, so is it a bit of overload or a success recipe?

Luckily it is the second option. Geodefense is an addictive game that looks like it has basic graphics, but turns out to be an exhilirating light show with mayhem going absolutely everywhere. I played a few of the easy and medium levels and found it as challenging fun that tested my skills and eyesight. I can see why this game was so popular in the original and has transformed into a great sequel. With 30 amazing levels this is not a game to miss if you like the genre. Now excuse me as I finish this so I can get started on the original.

Hybrid: Eternal Whisper – $5.99

I was very keen to get my hands on this game after experiencing it in its early beta stages. From the makers of the action packed Zenonia, I was very interested to see how this would be like their previous title. Hybrid: Eternal Whisper brings a more old school feel with a kind of Blades of Fury fighting environment. Instead of the levelling up slow feel of RPG’s, Hybrid is all about the fighting and action while following a storyline that folds out as you progress through the game.

Hybrid: Eternal Whisper has a quite engaging storyline and a challenging gameplay that will have you needing to master all the moves from the very start. While this is more of a fighting arcade type game, there are some RPG features such as levelling up and getting new skills etc. that require you to progress through the game. Just as with Gamevil’s other games there are alot of hours to enjoy in this game and will keep you coming back for a very long time. If you enjoy these types of games I recommend giving it a crack.

Dexter the Game by Mark Ecko Entertainment

iBlast Moki is a puzzle type game, where you place bombs and set timers on them to get some… things… to the finish. It’s even on ngmoco:)’s plus+ network.

Another cool release this week was Aera, a cool flying game, and I think Robocalypse came out this week. It’s a pretty good iPhone RTS.
