Intro

We have a brand new sponsor, Chillingo! Look out for this segment to be continued for months to come. Thanks guys!

This is a special double post for the last two weeks to make our first Chillingo sponsored post extra special. The last few weeks have been more about receiving big news of upcoming games than seeing them. We have found some large titles though, and in particular the smashing new hit by Tapulous and the Mario Kart of the iPhone with Gameloft’s Shrek Kart! ..

Tap Tap Revenge 3 – $0.99

The biggest name of all time on the App Store has made its appearance once more filled with premium payable content and great improvements. For the first time Tapulous have made songs downloadable via DLC with 2 songs available for $0.99 or a 6 hit track pack for $2.99. With about 40 of these premium packs featuring Fall Out Boy, Blink-182 and more as well as 100+ free tracks this is a game that will have you tapping for weeks upon weeks.

Tapulous has been intent on giving us the best game experience possible. With improved graphics and some sweet themes this makes a very enjoyable experience. TTR3 is a more social game with online mode, an inbox to send messages and experience points & coins to be earned from playing tracks. While I found the game to be slightly easier than previous versions its still a great experience and I’m looking forward to buying more great songs in the future.

Mystery Mania – $3.99

Mystery Mania is a retro themed game by Electronic Arts that has been remastered for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This game is a click and point adventure kind of like Secrets of Monkey Island and Beneath the Steel Sky. You follow the story of a mysterious robot F8 and what happened to him, finding out slowly as you find your way through the 27 challenging rooms. I have never ever played this game in the past so I was interested in how I would like this game.

When I first saw this game I was a bit surprised at what the graphics looked like. I thought they looked dodgy and pretty bad for an Electronic Arts game, but as you get into the game they work perfectly and look great. While the game isn’t as flashy as Monkey Island etc. it plays as a great puzzle game. What I am worried about in this game is that it may finish quickly with no re-playability, but only time will tell whether this game is worthy of the $3.99 price.

Bloons Tower Defense – $2.99

Since the original Bloons came bouncing onto the App Store gamers have cried out for the other popular title Bloons Tower Defense. Digital Goldfish has answered with a game that gives you your money’s worth just as we got with Bloons. This game could have easily been a rip off that people would still buy but instead we get 15 great levels with 9 brand new iPhone only tracks. Really one of the best classic tower defense games of all time.

Bloons Tower Defense has the cartoon graphics we all know and love. They have been adjusted perfectly to the iPhone screen. While some of the original tracks look a bit tight with not much room to put the towers, it makes for a more exciting and longer lasting game. Each level can be played in one of 3 difficulties and must be played for at least 50 rounds to win, but can go on in an endless mode. A long lasting game that is a must buy for TD and Bloons fans.

Cocoto Kart Online – $0.99

Cocoto Kart Online is made by multiplayer king Eurocenter who have made great multiplayer games like Bomber Online and Dinosmash Online. This game is an incredibly pick up for $0.99 as it has 12 characters, 10 tracks and a lag free online mode that isn’t matched by any other kart game on the App Store. While the graphics and characters aren’t up to Shrek Kart standards, the are still very good and amazing once you factor in the $0.99 price range of this game.

The main game mode of this game is the Multiplayer which is successful because of the vast number of people who own this game. There are multiple game modes and each always have people to verse. I found no achievements or levels to complete, which doesn’t give you as much reason to come back. This game has a flawless multiplayer mode which generally hasn’t been done well, even Tapulous can’t manage it as good as Eurocenter. $0.99 is a steal for this.

Shrek Kart – $4.99

Shrek Kart is the other recently released kart racer. This was announced some time ago and was judged as one of two games that could possibly be called the Mario Kart of the iPhone. The other was Krazy Kart Racer by Konami which wasn’t very successful at $7.99 as the price is definitely too high for that game. Shrek Kart in my eyes is more impressive both graphically as well as with the amount of Gameplay, as well as featuring characters from the well known movie Shrek! $4.99 for this game? It’s a GREAT deal for sure.

The graphics in this game are very flash and probably better than any of their previous racing games, hopefully showing good things to come in Asphalt 5. The game is very well laid out with heaps of content and unlockable drivers that require you to drive around in all game modes to unlock them. I have played all kart racers on the App Store and realistically this game comes out on top in all areas except multiplayer. There isn’t really any reason not to buy this game if you are a fan of racing games.

2XL ATV Offroad – $7.99

2XL is the super exciting sequel to the revolutionary 2XL Supercross. That game brought the first motocross experience that actually looked and played like a real game (Sorry Motochaser). This game has expanded on that with some pimped out graphics and some much needed game features that don’t feel you wanting more to play at the end of the day. There aren’t many developers who can offer me a game I’m willing to pay over $4.99 for but 2XL Games is certainly one of those developers who show only class and skill.

This game really blew me away with how spectacular the graphics are. For a developer that I have never heard of before 2XL Supercross embraced our iDevices it is even more amazing how realistic they have made this game. After getting past the graphics you reach the upgraded game with now a career mode and multiple game modes so the game doesn’t end anywhere near as soon as 2XL Supercross. It’s great to see 2XL improve on their original game which keeping the same principles, don’t miss out on this game.
