Yesterday, we got the heads up on another fun-looking title coming to iPad. Nominated for the Nordic Game Award for Best Artistic Achievement and designed by Binary Hammer in partnership with Javira, Polyhedra XL is the big cousin (or extra large version) of the fairly popular iPhone game Polyhedra.
The game is simple. Choosing from a choice of 10 shapes, you use your fingers to tap and grow these shapes to significant sizes, in an effort to fill the screen. But its not as easy as it looks. Enemies floating around you will prevent you from filling all that screen real-estate up, in a quick and timely fashion. Instead, using the device’s built in accelerometer, you’ll have to tilt to make room for more of these shapes. Points are gained for every shape you manage to drop to the bottom of the screen, successfully. The best bit? You can twist the device anyway you like to aid the avoidance of your enemies .. (effectively changing the in-game gravity in real-time).
Alongside having slightly enhanced fluid visuals, just as with the iPhone version, the iPad version will also have a free-play mode dubbed the ‘Toy Box’. Here, you can create up to 20 different shapes and test out the in-game physics and change the unique background music in a mode which doesn’t deliver points.
Update Mar 27th (18.16PM BST): We just this minute received an update from Bob Koon of Binary Hammer, who says regarding the release date for the title, the app was submitted yesterday and they’re hopeful Apple will choose Polyhedra XL as a launch title. Thanks Bob!
So far, there is no word on pricing or even a hint of a release date for Polyhedra XL. But, one thing is for sure .. you can bet those vibrant visuals will look stellar on the iPad’s new 9.7-inch (diagonal) widescreen display.
