Vampire Origins is out now on the App Store ”“ $6.99

We have a brand new sponsor, Chillingo! Look out for this segment to be continued for months to come. Thanks guys!

It seems as if every week these days Apple is releasing something or previewing their next exciting project. This week was the iPhone OS 4.0 with multitasking, folders and more. This update which is coming in Summer 2010 will let us have up to 2160 apps, something which will be of great use when you add this weeks apps to your device. We have an awesome fishing game that is set to topple Flick Fishing’s stranglehold on the iDevice, the first ever full hockey game I can remember seeing has also been released by the developers responsible for EA’s upcoming FIFA title this year as well as the latest from the Miniclip phenomenon Monster Trucks Nitro and another Freemium title by Ngmoco.

Fishing Kings – $2.99

Fishing Kings is Gameloft’s attempt at taking over as the best fishing game on the App Store. Flick Fishing has almost exclusively owned this position for over a year, but I feel as if Fishing Kings will be able to take that spot without much of a fight. This game has some insane graphics and really takes fishing beneath the water as we fish in a way never seen before on the iPhone. Instead of casting and winding in while looking at a tension bar, you actually view the action underwater and have to tilt your device to fight the fishes pull, or risk snapping the line.

Fishing Kings has 15 unique locations to fish at, 5 areas and 3 locations at each one. You will find different types of fish at each location and you can only catch them using a specific lure. Lures and money can be won by completing various missions and tournaments, then you can upgrade all of your fishing gear. There is quite a lot of depth in this game and the excellent graphics go great on any device with minimal, if any lag. For only $2.99 this is incredibly cheap for Gameloft, but that doesn’t mean it’s as good as all of their other titles. Best fishing experience on the App Store.

Monster Trucks Nitro 2 – $2.99

Late last year we received a game on the App Store that was based on the Miniclip.com hit Monster Trucks Nitro. The version had different vehicles and tracks but sadly left gamers wanting more with an incredibly short lifespan with next to no content. This sequel promises to offer more of everything, from better graphics to a longer play time and online leaderboards, all of which is considerably better than what those stinking free online gamers get with their 2D version of MTN2. This makes paying $2.99 for an online game just that little bit more rewarding.

This new version has 20 tracks for us to complete with 4 different vehicles available. Each race needs to be completed in 3 difficulty levels where you have to beat the ghost car every time. When you believe you have a good time you can submit it to the online leaderboard and aim to get the fastest time on each track, I already own the top spot on one track! The graphics look great but might give you the rare bit of lag on older devices, but apart from that I feel like this is a much improved sequel. $2.99 is a fair price for this game, just don’t expect it to keep you coming back for ages.

Hockey Nations 2010 – $3.99

Hockey Nations 2010 is the first full 3D 5-on-5 Ice Hockey game that I know of on the App Store. Luckily for us Distinctive Games has taken the leap and made the first game. When EA has you developing their upcoming FIFA game for the iPhone you must expect them to be able to make a pretty decent sport game. This game certainly is expertly created with excellent gameplay that is controlled by some well thought out controls and of course, stunning graphics. For an unadventured catergory this is a superb first attempt.

There are heaps of countries to play with as well as three game modes of single play, go for gold and tournament. Each mode is fairly fun but you will find yourself playing a tournament or going for the gold medal more often than not. The controls work extremely well but there is a slight learning curve to become good at this game. I found the game to be challenging which is a really nice change from most sport games, which are generally quite easy to dominate. Ice Hockey fans won’t be disappointed with this title, I thoroughly enjoyed playing it.

Charadium Pro – $2.99

I had heard good things about a relativity quiet release onto the iPad by Ngmoco. When I saw Charadium on AppShopper I jumped at the chance to grab it, even if I hadn’t seen any mention of it on any iPhone sites. This game is similar to Pictionary where you have to draw a picture and players have to guess what it is about. This time though it is all online and you play 15 rounds trying to earn as many points as possible by correctly guessing 1st what the picture is. This game had been addicted from the get go with it’s great online cpability.

Having thousands of people to play against means you will have a unique set of opponents each time. You can play a few rounds for fun then leave and it doesn’t affect the game for other people as new players just take their spot. Some things are challenging to draw but the challenge is most welcome in my eyes. There is a free ad supported version as well, but I enjoyed the game so much I thought it would be best to reward Ngmoco’s excellent game. Charadium is an excellent game that’s a heap of fun for the whole family, be sure to check out the free version.

Other Notable Releases this week Include:

Motor Stunt Extreme by Fox Games

Sketch Nation Shooter by Engineous Games

Warlords: Call to Arms by Ben Olding

Silent Hunter Mobile by Ubisoft

Star Wars: Cantina by THQ Wireless
