Unless you have been living in a secluded black hole the past few months you will have seen or heard about the program Glee. You know, the one with all the cheesy covers of great songs? Well it may come as no surprise then, that they have now got an app available to enjoy and sing along to most of their songs.
Developed by Smule, the Glee app is designed to help you sing along karaoke style to some of their well know hits. The app records your singing whilst auto-correcting your pitch and adds harmonies within your song. So you will sound like one of the great auto-tune singers you may have heard on the show or in the charts recently. If you are feeling really daring you can also release it on the Glee Globe for everyone to listen to.
The app comes preloaded with three songs from the hit series. The songs are ”˜Rehab’, Somebody to Love’ and ”˜You Keep Me Hanging On’ you can also sing A Cappella. Now if you fancy singing any more songs I’m afraid its going to cost you. The rest are in-app purchases costing 59p a time.
Now before you sing if you want to register your details on to the Glee Globe you can or if not you can just sing along anyway. Registering is easy though you just fill a short form in and its done. When you are ready you will need your headphones with a microphone for it to work at its best. You then press sing, choose which song you want to sing and start. This is when the fun begins! You can hear the music playing and the words will show on the screen. You just follow them and sing like you would with a karaoke machine. Once the songs finished you then either choose to restart or save it.
There are options within the song area to fine tune how you want to sound you can set it to ”˜Harmony & Pitch Correct’, ”˜Pitch only’ or if you are a super singer to ”˜none’. Of course I chose both, I need all the help I can get!
When you have saved your song it is up to you then what you want to do with it. If you want to you can share it with your friends via Email, Facebook, Twitter or MySpace. The last option is to broadcast it. This is when you broadcast it to fellow Glee singers around the world who have also recorded their songs. Now I have to admit I found this bit hilarious! Not just my singing but the other people who had put their songs on. Listening to everyone else, knowing what people get up to behind closed doors! It is just a great giggle.
When you are listening to others across the world you can give them a star if you think they are good and you can add your comments as well. If you do give that person a start you become their gleek and people can do the same to you. You collect gleeks as you go along depending how good you are. To earn gleeks faster you can start a club with friends or from people around the world and all sing together the same song. What happens is you sing the song and the app then adds all the other singers version of it into one song, it is very cool. Its a great interactive feature they have with-in the app and over the last few days I have noticed it becoming increasingly popular with more people showing with-in the glee globe.
Going back to the songs available there isn’t a huge choice at the moment after your three free ones but songs will get added each week. Not all the songs will ever reach the app though so don’t be too surprised if you don’t see some of your favorites.
The app works on most devices but not the 1st gen iPhone 2G. It is all very easy to use with a nice user interface. Since I have had this app I have had so much fun, it really is great for all ages. If you can’t sing, which I can’t, it really doesn’t matter the app helps you sound slightly better. Well that’s what I keep telling myself, but my husbnd seems to think otherwise. It is great for all those shy people out there who have always wanted to try karaoke but never did dare do it in front of everyone. It’s not all about the singing that made the app fun though. Just listening to everybody else had me amused for hours and my many attempts at singing one song from start to finish without laughing was hilarious and actually did have me laughing all day. A great tonic that we all need once in a while.
