A few hours ago we gave you the heads up that Apple had officially announced it would be making the iPad available to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK on May 28th, with pre-orders for these 9 countries starting this Monday, May 7th.

Today, @iLounge is reporting via @MacRumors that alongside the launch, the company also intends to launch it’s iBooks application, as well as its new iBookstore, in most if not all of these countries on May 28th, stating that Apple has already confirmed that both Italy and Spain will be getting iBooks and the iBookstore on May 28th.

The iBookstore was announced as a U.S.-only feature during the iPad’s introduction in late January, although evidence soon surfaced that Apple was making plans to extend it internationally. Apple also announced last month that it will be bringing iBooks and the iBookstore to the iPhone and iPod touch with iPhone OS 4 later this year.
