Monster Mayhem is out now on the App Store ”“ $1.99
We have a brand new sponsor, @Chillingo! Look out for this segment to be continued for months to come. Thanks guys!
Once again we are back to one of those weeks that strains the wallet when both Electronic Arts and Gameloft release a title each week. EA have dipped their hat into the skateboarding realm attempting to topple Tony Hawk from the No.1 spot of skating games. Gameloft are taking the seemingly easy task of recreating Resident Evil, easily beating the poor attempt by Capcom with both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Degeneration. Not to be forgotten is that small company Tapulous who have brought out the latest edition of the TTR series, pleasing many 90’s fans and more importantly Bieber haters with Nirvana Revenge. Check out all the info on the games below.

Skate It – $6.99
Skate It is a port of the DS game with the same name. True to the iPhone’s superiority the game has been enhanced with free roaming and better graphics compared to the DS version. This game is all about traveling around the skating world of San Vanelona and completing challenges to unlock new clothing and skateboard items. Skate It also has attempted to change how we skate on the iPhone, removing the awkward on screen controls found in Skater Nation & THPS2 and replaced them with tilting to steer and swipe gestures in different directions to do tricks.
Skate It is very fun to play and probably slightly easier to play than Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. There are around 10-15 levels and each is very large, so the detail in the graphics has been lowered to allow for a smooth gaming session. The controls take some practice to get used to but once you have it sorted you should find it easy enough to pull off tricks. Sometimes the swipes don’t register the trick you were aiming to pull off, which can be a bit of a pain. Skate It is an excellent skating game and should be purchased as an alternative to THPS2, they are neck and neck in my view.
Zombie Infection – $6.99
I was really looking forward to playing Resident Evil when it came out on the iPhone, but was slightly disappointed with the poor attempt at a port. Thankfully everyone’s best friend Gameloft has come to the rescue once again to bring us a game very similar to Resident Evil 5. In true Zombie style you must fight your way through 12 levels to figure out why everyone has turned to zombies and see what has happened to the Freedom Fighters. Each level will take anywhere between 15-30 to complete so expect a good 6-8 hours of gameplay if you play through once.
Zombie Infection holds Gameloft’s reputation of making games with excellent 3D graphics yet still running without lag on the earliest of devices. Even playing this on my 1G iPod Touch I was able to roam around for a few various levels without any lag what so ever. Zombie Infection is a load of fun and manages to stay interesting with you constantly looking behind you just waiting for a zombie to grab you from behind. This game is worthy to be under the Resident Evil name, but instead Gameloft are offering it as Zombie Infection for the extremely cheap price of $6.99.
Nirvana Revenge – $4.99
When you hit a good thing it’s best to keep running with it. That’s exactly what Tapulous has done with the TTR series, now over 10 apps strong. The latest in the series is the extremely popular 90’s band Nirvana who are most famous for their track ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Nirvana Revenge boasts 13 tracks that range from studio recordings to live versions of their songs (Mainly because they didn’t release that many songs!). As always Tapulous has slightly extended what is included, this time featuring short Nirvana radio snippets before each track starts playing.
The tracks are smooth and feature a unique theme as with any large artists that have tracks on TTR. After so many songs are played on each difficulty a boss level is unlocked that have a special landscape theme that is hand designed for each song that is featured as a boss track. Realistically the only reason why you will buy this game is because you like Grunge music of Nirvana itself. For $4.99 this is a fair price, working out to under $0.50 per track. Nirvana Revenge is a welcome addition to the TTR collection and is definitely a better choice compared to Justin Bieber!
Other Notable Releases this week Include:
Pocket Creatures by Tactile Entertainment
Daredevil Dave: Motorcycle Stuntman! by Mike Massei
iBomber 2 by Cobra Mobile
