Well it probably came to most as no surprise due to recent events, but today @Gizmodo announced it had been denied both press privileges and therefore access to this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
Publishing a blog post asking their reader base to help them cover the event, the Gawker-owned publication revealed their actions earlier in the year have cost them dearly.
The move comes as the site bought what we know now was an actual Apple prototype iPhone, off someone who had allegedly stolen it off an Apple engineer the previous night. Weeks of investigation followed with Gizmodo’s Jason Chen having his offices searched by police, an action most think was sanctioned by Apple … although this has never been proven.
It’s no surprise: Apple has not responded to our requests to attend the WWDC keynote on Monday at 10am PST. But we’ll still cover the news. Want to help?
From then on the rumors and leaks have just spiraled out of control, with the general consensus being that if the next-gen iPhone isn’t announced next Monday, well … the earth will implode.
We don’t like to bask in others misfortune, but if you’re still looking for a place to grab the latest minute-by-minute updates from WWDC, we’ll be covering the event LIVE starting June 7th, 5:30PM BST. Feel free to join in yourself by hashing your tweets on @Twitter with #RFLIVE.
