In the biggest physics experiment the world has ever witnessed, CERN (The European Organization for Nuclear Research), the company involved in developing and inventing the world wide web, are yet again trying to change the world we live in, this time focusing their attention on our worlds conception just nano-seconds after the ‘The Big Bang’ …

With the use of a £5bn machine (Large Hadron Collider) located on the Swiss-French border, scientists have today completed the first tests successfully firing a beam around the gigantic tube. Underground and controlled, this 27km-long cylindrical tube will today be the home to four of the biggest proton experiments the world has ever seen.

At peak, and nearing the speed of light, it is estimated that the protons fired through the accelerator, will lap the tube roughly 11,000 times per second and hit truly staggering temperatures.

“We will be looking at what the Universe was made of billionths of a second after the Big Bang”

– Dr Tara Shears, University of Liverpool

“Nature can surprise us… we have to be ready to detect anything it throws at us”

– Jim Virdee, – Particle physicist, Imperial College London.

The day doesn’t go without it’s doubters and scare-mongers though, with some scientists claiming that the experiments to take place later this year, could potentially open black holes in the tube which, eventually, will swallow the earth as we know it – Dramatic, much? -_-

This news is massive, and these experiments could actually change the way we look at our current world, the physics behind it, and even answer the greatest question of all:

“Where did we come from?”
