Created and developed by Marco Arment, Instapaper is a service that allows you to save articles on the internet for later. The service works by you adding what’s called a bookmarklet to your browser toolbar. Once you do, you can then use this browser bookmarklet to save any content across the web instantly to your Instapaper account.
Yesterday, via their official blog, the Instapaper team posted a preview of what the application is going to look like on the iPad – and by damn, it looks gorgeous. Already available for iPhone as a FREE application, the iPad version of the software doesn’t look all that much different. However, as noted by Arment, it has been modified in a few place to “better fit the form factor and platform paradigms”.
What does it look like? The screenshot below will give you a taster of what’s to come from Instapaper. Here you’ll see that the iPad flavour of the app has been stripped down to basics, letting the content itself do all the talking.
“See? No huge surprises, except maybe that I changed to dark toolbars. No multi-column reading, no fake book-page animations, and no giant newspaper graphics. I’ll probably move the reading-view toolbar to the top in the future, like most iPad apps, but I don’t yet know how I’ll hold the iPad when reading. The biggest visual changes were made to the landscape-orientation list screen.”
I have to say I’ve never really been a big Instapaper user, but seeing the revisions the iPad version is going to undertake may just be enough to make me revisit that decision.
