With the announcement of iPhone OS 4.0 came one of the biggest feature request in iPhone OS history. Wanted by millions and practically the number one reason people still jailbreak their devices, iPhone OS 4.0 is set to bring app multitasking.
It’s the ability to run applications along side each other, without sacrificing battery life or performance – and so far, after running the software on my 3GS for the past few weeks, it has been working pretty well, dispute the flurry of little bugs encountered.
But yesterday, Apple released beta 2 with a surprising and welcomed addition.
Previously, in OS 4.0 beta 1, when app switching you tap the home button twice and whatever you are doing at the time, slides up to make way for a separate ‘app dock’ hidden beneath. This dock, accessible OS-wide, then allows you to switch apps seamlessly, or remove a background process by tapping and holding on an icon, and then tapping the ‘X’ associated with that app in the top left.
In OS 4.0 beta 2 though, something has changed. As first discovered by @TiPB in the video above, now when you switch applications from the this new app dock you’re met with a Keynote-esque ‘switch’ transitional animation, which I have to say on first impressions is very, very nice.
Keep that eye-candy coming Apple!
