If you thought Jack Dorsey’s @Square project was something to get excited over, think again.
A few months ago we saw the founder of @Twitter, Jack Dorsey (@Jack), launch his new company called @Square. A simply system which allows users to purchase anything by swiping a credit or debit card through a special accessory, which plugs seamlessly into the iPhone’s own headphone jack.
Today however, @AppleInsider is reporting that Apple has recently certified a new accessory for use with global payments system VISA, which will allow you to to pay for anything you desire, wirelessly, using your iPhone.
“iPhone users will be able to make Visa mobile payments in retail stores, at fast food restaurants, in taxis, during sporting events (such as at baseball games), and also make purchases at vending machines that have contactless payment terminals,” the press release read. “Thousands of merchants throughout the U.S. have already upgraded their payment terminals to allow consumers to make Visa mobile payments.”
The system will involve users waving their device in front of a “contactless payment terminal” to make transactions. The accessory, coming to market this summer, will come in the form of a case. The case will have a secure memory card that will hold VISA’s contactless payment application, VISA payWave.
Colour us excited.
