We’d like to take a minute to bask in a monumental moment of achievement with our sister site rfly.me.
Created by myself (@razorianfly) and James (@HereIsJames) in May 2009, rfly.me is the official URL shortening service of RazorianFly.com, and was the result of wanting something simple. Something usable. Something short and sweet.
We figured we’d create a service which would allow anyone, anywhere the ability to shorten links across the web, for use with services like @Twitter and @Facebook, but never did we imagine we’d be writing this post today. What originally started out as a hobby, just got a hell of a lot bigger. All thanks to you guys.
On October 31st 2009, we announced rfly.me had surpassed 100,000 clicks and then stood at just under 10,000 URLs shortened. In December 2009 we announced we’d hit 10,000 URLs. At 10AM this morning, Tuesday May 11th 2010, the rfly.me database recorded our 500,000th click through. That’s half a million. It still sounds slightly weird saying it.
As of writing this post, you have shortened a staggering 71,905 URLs using rfly.me.
Of course, without you guys we’d be nowhere, so we’d like to thank you, immensely. That means everyone who has shortened, everyone who has re-tweeted, every developer who has contacted us requesting our API for their iPhone or Mac projects. We’d like to thank you all.
There’s more planned for rfly.me as a shortening service, more that’s perhaps even shorter – and we just can’t wait to show it you.
