New York Times technology reporter @BradStone has today announced that the FTC has approved @Google’s acquisition of ad network @AdMob.

Late last year news broke that the search giant had bought the advertising network. Then, in April, Apple announced it would be introducing a new ad platform called ‘iAd’ specifically stating that they too wanted to buy AdMob, but were pipped to the post by @Google.

Or as Steve likes to put it:

“We tried to buy a company called AdMob… but Google snatched it away.”

This announcement caused many to sit up and see the true competition between the two companies.

Today, @Engadget is reporting that the FTC has approved the move by Google stating that Apple’s entry into the as market will provide significant competition to AdMob, regardless of whether or not it’s owned by Google.

AdMob founder and CEO Omar Hamoui had this to say:

“We are extremely pleased with today’s decision from the Federal Trade Commission to clear Google’s acquisition of AdMob. Over the past six months we’ve received a great deal of support from across the mobile industry ”“ and we deeply appreciate it. Our focus is now on working with the team at Google team to quickly close the deal.”
