Bejeweled 2 for iPhone.

Pop-Cap Games have been a solid source for truly great online games from the likes of Zuma, Peggleâ„¢ Chuzzleâ„¢, Bookwormâ„¢, Feeding Frenzyâ„¢ for quite a long time now. So it was no surprise to me and others when Pop-Cap came to the iPhone with Bejeweled 2.

Bejeweled 2 Start-screen & Start-up Tutorial(s).

The Aim
The objective of this game is to swap one gem with an adjacent gem to form a horizontal or vertical chain of three or more gems. Bonus points are given when more than three identical gems are formed or forms two lines of identical gems in one swap. Gems disappear when chains are formed and gems fall from the top to fill in gaps. Sometimes chain reactions, called cascades, are triggered, where chains are formed by the falling gems. Cascades are awarded with bonus points. There are two variations of the game to choose from, ‘Classic’ and ‘Action’ …

Visuals
The graphics on this title don’t disappoint either, I mean you’d be hard pushed to notice your actually playing it on an iPhone rather than your iMac. The port over to iPhone, from the title, hasn’t compromised any aspects of the game, visually. It’s stunning.

The sheer graphical feedback you'll get from Bejeweled on iPhone, makes it worth all of £5.99.

Price
Priced at £5.99, the game can seem, at times, to be worth less bang-for-buck, but all in all, for the visual feedback and entertainment of this title, £5.99 doesn’t seem all that much.

Pausing is a reality & I get told by Bejeweled 2.

Level-Based Gameplay
As with all the previous ‘Bejeweled’ puzzlers, you’ll won’t be surprised to hear Bejeweled is played on a level-based basis, i.e. if you manage to clear the board, or pass a milestone in your current score, you move-on-up to the next level. I won’t spoil it for you, for the graphics when moving up a level, totally rock.

Other little features – Power Gems.

Also supports Landscape mode!
Yes, Bejeweled is one of the rare applications on the App Store to date, which supports game-play in landscape using the built-in accelerometer within iPhone & iPod touch! – Go Pop-Cap!

In Summary …
There’s nothing much else to say, other than this, this is Bejeweled, and it’s now, on iPhone. It’s the same Bejeweled we all know and love, with nothing taken away. My only criticism I can find is that the price seems slightly steep in direct comparison with the features included in the game. Other than that, this is another successful port for Pop-Cap games.

They wanted to bring Bejeweled to iPhone, and they did it, with pure style.

Rating: 8.5/10 (Recommended)
