There’s a crease on the iPhone Duo. You just have to work surprisingly hard to find it.
A new video from 9to5Mac gives us one of the clearest looks yet at the Duo’s inner display, and the result is pretty remarkable. Move the phone around and, eventually, you can catch the faintest hint of where the display folds.
But head-on? In normal use? — It basically disappears.

That’s important because the crease has always been the elephant in the room with foldable phones. You can make a phone thinner, lighter and more durable, but if there’s a big visible line running straight through the middle of your £1,999 screen, you’re going to notice it.
Apple appears to have taken a slightly different approach with the Duo.
Rather than pretending the physics of a folding display don’t exist, Apple has designed the display, its surface treatment and iOS around making the crease as unobtrusive as possible. The 7.6-inch inner display uses a custom nano-texture finish that also helps reduce reflections, while iOS can shift content and controls away from the centre as the phone opens and closes. (9to5Mac)
And that combination seems to work.
The interesting thing about this video isn’t that the crease has magically vanished. It hasn’t.
It’s that you can actively go looking for it and still struggle to see it.
That’s the more realistic definition of a successful foldable display. The goal was never going to be making a piece of flexible glass behave exactly like a sheet of glass. The goal is making you forget you’re looking at something that folds.
From what we’re seeing so far, Apple might have got surprisingly close.
The crease is there.
But, it’s barely visible.
And that’s probably one of the most impressive feats of engineering when it comes down to the iPhone Duo.

[…] Apple has made a big deal about the Duo’s inner display, using a precision hinge and a special nano-texture finish designed to minimise glare and make the crease less noticeable. […]
