If you’re having trouble deciding between the two, I strongly believe this is the better title. The object is simple; guide the incoming boats to a dock, wait for them to unload their cargo, then lead them away safely. Trust me, it’s much more difficult than it sounds. There are different types of boats, ranging from slow (with plenty of cargo) to fast (with little cargo). I like to think of myself as a nautical conductor and the boats coming in and out of docks are the musicians in this hectic sonata.

As of writing this review, there are five different levels to play on, and each has its own unique catch. Be it a swirling whirlpool that diverts your ships off course, or a pirate ship that you need to shoot down before it destroys your ships. There’s also a few levels that mix up the colors of the cargo, increasing the insanity. The levels are all unique and keep the game fresh. You unlock new levels by increasing your total cargo count, which is a great way to keep your interest.

If you’re a fellow statistic whore, there are plenty of global and local leaderboards that keep track of every statistic imaginable, which for me, was great to see. Yet another reason to hold your interest. Throw in achievements (spanning from your most active port to your lifetime cargo received) and you’ve got plenty reason to revisit this one after your first go at it.

The controls are as smooth as butter, you won’t encounter a problem throughout the life of the game. The graphics are very well done, without being over done. The sound is spot-on as well and fits the game perfectly. The developers also seem committed and have already been pumping out the updates, so expect new content to be released periodically.

In conclusion, at $0.99, Harbor Master is an absolute steal. It’s as addicting as any other game out there, and will keep you interested for hours on end. For the price of a morning coffee, you’re getting hours of hectic, addicting, and genuinely fun gameplay. This is one of my favorite games out in the app store to date, check this one out.

Current Status: Highly Recommended

Reviewed at: v1.2
Reviewed on Firmware: 3.0
Download size: 7.4MB
Released on: 25th Jul 2009
Retails for: £0.59 / $0.99
Compatible with: iPod touch Gen 1 & 2 / iPhone Classic / iPhone 3G / iPhone 3GS

Arr, matey!
