Yeah, I hadn’t until a few days ago either.

Colorbind by Daniel Lutz of Nonverbal is the best puzzle app I’ve played in a long time. And yes, it’s called Colorbind, not blind. The concept of the game is very unique. The goal is to slide ribbons underneath circles that appear on the screen. There are often multiple colors of ribbons and dots, and all the colors have to match. Whenever a ribbon changes direction, you can’t pass through that area again.

The ribbons can cross each other, but you can’t change directions while over or under another ribbon. Some levels are started with portions of ribbons already laid out on the area forcing you to work around them. You can’t change directions while on top of a dot, or the dot will lose it’s colored fill. The color of a dot is compared with the ribbon beneath it, so you have to be sure to go under and over in the proper way so that the correct color is on top. The changing directions and crazy contortions the ribbons go through make the levels quite difficult, yet beautiful. I’m currently on level 32 out of the total 84.

What I love about the game is how the levels are often set up to be very symmetrical and just look gorgeous when fully solved. Sometimes you will be stuck on a level, thinking to yourself “What would be the most elegant way to solve this level?”, and that ends up being the solution. The game has, I assume, three difficulty tiers;Â Easy, Medium, and Hard. I say assume, because there has been a little hinting at some unlockable secret, which I haven’t earned yet, presumably a ‘Super Hard’ level.

The controlling of the ribbon is done by touch, just sliding your finger as you want the ribbon to move. This works fairly well, though undoing moves can be slightly inaccurate. The game has 10 cute achievements, but no actual network like Plus+ or Openfeint. I’m not sure it needs one. The app also tracks statistics like the total distance covered and the number of rollbacks, total levels complete, and total levels reset by shaking. I’ve rolled out 462.23 feet of ribbon already. The level selector is nice, as each level you solve unlocks both the next one, and the level below it in the grid of levels, so you have options when you get stuck, but you must solve every level of a difficulty to unlock the next difficulty setting. As for problems I have with the game, I can’t really find anything. The only feature that could be added to Colorbind is hints or SOMETHING, because this game is impossible! But, that’s the fun of these games I suppose. I’d still like a hint now and then, though.

I must say that I have been playing this game the most out of all of the games I currently own. I don’t think I’ve wasted this much time on a game in 8 months, not on Eliss, not on Doodle Jump, not even on Aurora Feint II. The lite version includes 10 levels, so try it out if you’re still not sure. It’s just insanely fun and addicting, what can I say? Oh, I know! – Get it, play it, love it.

Have you ever heard of a game based on colored ribbons covering up little dots while folding all over themselves?
