Recently I noticed that Depict was in the New and Noteworthy section of the AppStore and in fact, at the time of writing this I believe it still is here in the UK. It is a multiplayer online Pictionary game with OpenFeint support. Now I love playing Charadium which is available in the AppStore and again this is an online multiplayer game, so I decided to give Depict a go.<\/p>\n

It is a free game with the chance to buy two in-app purchases if you wish but I will go into them in more detail later. You can play this game solo, with your own chosen friends or 5 other random people from around the world. It can be played\u00c2\u00a0 via wifi, 3G or Edge. The game play is easy, you are in a team of five, each taking it in turns to draw a picture and you all have to take a guess at what it is. Now unlike the normal charadium game where you have to type the word in to what you think it is Depict makes it slightly easier for you. At the bottom of the screen are six words and you have to guess out of those six what it is that the person is drawing. If you think you know the answer you just press the correct button there is no messing trying to quickly type the correctly spelt word.<\/p>\n

Now you all get to guess what the word is and you all score points on that guess. The idea is that the faster you answer the more points you get. So if you answer first before anyone else you get more points then the second person does and so on. So you need to get your fingers ready on that button!<\/p>\n

When it comes to your turn to draw, the word is shown what you have to draw. If you think you can\u2019t draw it then you can skip or you can go ahead and have a go. When you start drawing you can choose the brush colour from the huge range available, so you can draw a perfect picture. You can even change the colour of your background. If you make a mistake you do have a clear button which you just rub over the screen like an eraser and it clears it off for you. Whilst you are drawing, your opponents make the guess what they think it is, you need to also be aware that the game is being timed so they need to make a choice quite soon.<\/p>\n

If you think that the person who did the latest drawing did it really well and you are impressed with their skills you can hit the star key or if they are cheating by writing or drawing offensive pictures there is a whistle which you can press which gets them out of the game. I must admit I have had to press it a couple of times as it seems there are still a few people who think it is a good idea to spoil it for everyone else.<\/p>\n

The game is just five rounds so it makes it ideal for when you jump in half way through the game. It goes fairly quick. You can also change your avatar to different facial expressions for an added bit of fun or if you want to buy an in-app purchase to customize your own avatar you can. I\u2019ve not seen anyone do that yet but I\u2019m sure once the game gets slightly more popular I may do. The other in-app purchase is if you want to do a lightening round where you just make quick continued guesses.<\/p>\n

Depict isn\u2019t actually a new game but it has been recently updated which is why I think it’s in the new and noteworthy section. The recent updates to the app are that you can now invite your friends through twitter or facebook. There is also a push notification to enable you to invite your Openfeint friends that are offline.<\/p>\n

The pixel style graphics make it a great UI to look at. It is a fun game with the ability to have you playing for hours and for a free app you can\u2019t argue with that!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
