While not all of these models have seen hardware changes, there’s one thing for certain, each new iPhone has had a different name.

With Apple set to announce iPhone 4 at this years Worldwide Developers Conference in June, we pose the question; What should Apple call their next iPhone?

In 2007 Apple released the iPhone, and as revolutionary as it was, it was just marketed as an ‘iPhone’. With the device’s predecessor being the iPod, from a marketing perspective it was clear to the market this was an Apple product from the consistent use of the ‘i’ branding, and it was a phone. Hence, iPhone.

Then in 2008, Apple released the next iPhone which had both a different look and supported connections over a 3G network. The only problem was, Apple could no longer convey the device supported 3G just by marketing it as the ‘iPhone’. Instead they tacked 3G onto the end. Becoming, the iPhone 3G.

Finally, in 2009 Apple released the next iPhone. A device which didn’t change in its appearance, but gained a faster processor, compass and more. Yet again though, Apple hit a snag. It couldn’t call this the “iPhone 3G Just a Little Faster”. Instead, it had to think smart, with the company tacking an ‘s’ onto the end of iPhone 3G, becoming the iPhone 3Gs (according to Apple, S standing for Speed).

With recent findings highlighted by @MacRumors pointing to the next iPhone, to be release this year, being capable of recording HD video up to 1280 x 720; Will the next iPhone be dubbed iPhone HD? But what if next year Apple release a revision to that iPhone and it then has a faster processor? Will this then become the iPhone HDs?

Where do you stop? Seriously Apple. Are we one day going to end up with an iPhone HDsx5? — Wait, don’t answer that. And so, we pose the question to you all again; What should Apple call their next iPhone?
