(I’d like to buy some Apples please. Do you know where I can find any?)

Well now you can, with Linguo for iPhone …

Linguo [App Store] developed by Edovia Inc, is a fully featured, international, linguistic translator especially designed for iPhone. I was given a copy to test out a couple of weeks ago and from my experiences I have to say it’s a pretty strong application.

Using Linguo
Opening Linguo for the first time you’ll be presented with four options. The first is the language you want to translate from (1), then the text you wish to translate (2), then the language you want to translate to (3), and finally the output translation given (4).

During my tests, I did notice that Linguo requires a persistent connection to Wifi in order to return any results at all. This can be seen as a slight flaw although due to the nature of the application I’m ensure whether functionality over the Edge or 3G networks would be a viable option.

Along the bottom of the application you have three functional tabs, these include: Linguo, My Translations and Dictionary. The Linguo tab takes you back to the main screen and where you actually perform a translation. The ‘My Translations tab allows you to actually ‘save’ a translation – I found this handy for future reference of previous translations. The Dictionary tab is a bit special, as this allows you to scroll through a Edovia-developed list of common phrases and words, and actually play a vocal pronunciation of it! – This works extremely well, so well I actually found myself playing with it for hours listening to all the different phrases, in all those different languages, it’s fascinating.

Ok, lets translate something …

For this example I’m going to use the phrase:

‘I’d like to buy some Apples.’

So let’s go ahead and open up Linguo for iPhone …

Now were at the main screen we can start to think of what we want to translate, or maybe what we want is already in the Dictionary? – For now I’m just going to translate using the ‘Linguo’ tab …

Translating a phrase is like riding a bike, simply choose the language you wish to translate from, enter the phrase you wish to translate using the build in keyboard, choose the language you wish to translate to, then hit ‘Translate Now.’ Your translated phrase will be shown in the box below your destination language.

Languages
As you’d probably expect Linguo is fully equipt with nearly every known language on the globe. Language availability varies as to whether your translating to, or from. Below are all the languages Linguo currently offer translations for:

Translate From; Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean (as featured), Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish

Translate To;Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean (as featured), Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish

You can see some of these below:

Price
Linguo currently sells for £1.79 ($2.99). Almost low enough for a few impulse buys, but I think the majority of App Store customers would still have to think about £1.19. Still, for the price Linguo offers a fairly professional, well designed, linguistic tool for those of you who travel far and wide on a regular basis.

Overall
With having tested Linguo extensively over the past few weeks, it’s worked exceptionally. Ok yes, it does crash – sometimes – but still for it’s price and functionality, it’s an application well worth adding to your library. With iPhone OS being updated by Apple every 2 months or so, the platform can theoretically only get more stable. I would however advise Edovia to provide a ‘Lite’ or “Free’ version of Linguo, with limited features and functionality in the future, to give potential users a taste of it’s features, before actually dropping the £1.19.

Supports iPhone and iPod touch Gen1 & 2 (Vocal translation unsupported on Gen1)

Rating: 8/10 (Well Designed, Recommend)

App Store: Linguo

———————————————————————————————————————-
Want your application reviewed by the team here at RazorianFly.com?
Please contact us requesting our UDIDs (Unique Device Identifiers) and we’ll be sure to
perform extensive tests and eventually publish a review just like this one.
———————————————————————————————————————-

Ever needed to say 나는 사과가 즐겁게 하는 약간을 ì‚¬ê³ ì‹¶ë‹¤. ë‹¹ì‹ ì€ 어디에 ë‚´ê°€ 무언가 ë°œê²¬í• ìˆ˜ 있는지 아느냐?
