Similar to another patent we touched on recently, this method would see the the user complete transactions or buy products with unique coupons and pricing.

“Based on a dynamic pricing scheme, the advertisers may pay a variable price for an advertisement based on the likelihood of influencing user behavior,”

Describing an entirely new application called “Local Ad”, the app would allow users to store manage and view advertisement coupons. As well as these location based adverts being present in Local Ad, the patent application described how when connected to a Wi-Fi connection, these ads and their coupons could be seen across iPhone OS, system wide, in both native and third-party applications.

Alongside the software, the patent describes the use of RFID tags which could further enhance the accuracy of these location based adverts for the end-user, with users able to scan and read barcodes directly from their iPhone using the built-in camera.

“If the submitted advertisement… provides a coupon for food at a restaurant, the submitting advertiser… may include an indication that the advertisement… is directed to food sales, times of day when meals are popularly served, a GPS location of the restaurant, keywords that may relate to the restaurant in an Internet search, how weather may affect the use or non-use of the coupon in the advertisement…, etc,”

[via @AppleInsider]

CrunchBase Information

iPhone 3G

iPhone 3GS

At Apple’s special event last month, the company gave us an insight into the future of iPhone OS, announcing iPhone OS 4.0.

Alongside this announcement though, we also saw Apple enter a new market.
