Look out for this segment to be continued for months to come. Thanks guys!

This week seems to be movie week, as we receive two big name Spin-offs. Gameloft has again kept with it’s weekly May release, bringing the 2nd Shrek title to the App Store. Warner Bros has brought a racing game to coincide with the release of Split/Second on consoles this week. And for those who were looking for something better than FIFA World Cup, you can now buy the heavily updated version of X2 Football (Now X2 Football 2010). While we are secretly waiting for Splinter Cell to be released on May 27th, you may as well pick up one of these titles to keep you entertained until that fabled date.

CONTEST Update!

The Winners are as follows:

Hoodie & Shirt: @Thunderclaww

Shirts: @The_Swiftman – @thecodeman – @Spicoli – @picpocketbooks

Thanks all for entering, you should hear more soon!

X2 Football 2010Â – $6.99

X2 Football 2009 was the first real attempt at making a good soccer game for the App Store. Sure FIFA came along and blew it out of the water with the franchise name, but many still believe the X2 series are the better games. The largest update that has been made to this game are the excellent graphics and 3GS only improvements which take advantage of the more powerful device. When we took a look at FIFA World Cup you couldn’t notice much difference in the graphics, so X2 have decided to take the oppurtunity to create the most appealing game possible.

You can play X2 Football with over 100 real teams from both countries and leagues all around the world. One excellent mode that is new to this version is the Dreamteam where you win games with a quite average team and slowly upgrade your stats until you have an elite team. X2 Football is more of a realistic football game which should please many people. Both X2 and FIFA are the same price, both are awesome but X2 has more content for you to play with.

Shrek Forever After – $6.99

If you asked me this time last year what the best kart racing game was on the App Store, I wouldn’t expect Shrek to even get a mention. Now that he has conquered racing, Gameloft has helped Shrek get back to what he does best, smashing bad guys and saving the day. This game as a mix of Castle of Magic and Avatar as you run through levels collecting coins and punching every bad guy that gets in your way. What else will excite those who play games with the sound on? Well the voice acting is actually by all the movie stars that voice the film, no more shoddy rip-offs!

We get the chance to jump, fight and run our way through 11 unique levels while playing as Shrek, Donkey or Puss In Boots. I haven’t seen the movie so I can’t comment on how whether it follows the same storyline, but I would suspect that it does. This game is quite a fun little platformer but don’t expect it to really challenge you at all. During the game we also have 3 mini games to play and 14 achievements to unlock as you progress. Shrek is after all a family friendly movie and so if the game. $6.99 is the standard Gameloft price and the quality of this game makes it worth it.

Split/Second – $6.99

Split/Second is an intense racing game that f0llows the same path as the console version. Instead of just racing around a track, Split/Second has the track fall to pieces as you try to dodge your way to the finish, while still finishing first. The game plays somewhat like Burnout Revenge where you can trigger Powerplays to help you take out opponents, open up short cuts and ultimately help you win. The game has 3 locations and 9 races from the console game, all of which can be played using one of 15 speciliazed cars, raring to race in this unique game.

On paper this game sounds good, but it is not all that it is made out to be. The car just doesn’t feel smooth and looks like it is not moving. When you have games like Real Racing and Need for Speed to contend with you have to step up your game. This game feels like it has taken a few short cuts with the final product. That aside this is a difficult game to complete with a large knowledge of each track being needed for success. For $6.99 I can’t recommend you pick up this game, they just isn’t enough content or perfection in the overall game to justify that price. Consider after a price drop.

Other Notable Releases this week Include:

Steam Pirates by Fried Green Apps

Truckers Delight: Episode 1 by Mobigame

Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior by IGFUN

Stay tuned next week for the 31st installment of ‘The Week That Was’.
