Among the hype of the Let’s<\/a> rock<\/a> event<\/a>, it seems the world may have been thinking about the future of the iPod, without actually questioning where it came from originally … <\/p>\n In a recent article published by The Daily Mail<\/a>, it is claimed a 55 year old UK inventor, Kane Kramer, invented the very technology and methodology behind the iPod. In 1979, Kramer and a friend James Campbell are said to have come up with the concept for a pocket-sized, portable solid state music player, a concept so good it could have been the original iPod. Some months later a working concept was made which could store a commendable 3.5 minutes of music and was from then on referred to as IXI. <\/p>\n After designing and developing the IXI, it is said Kramer’s thinking then shifted into an ecosystem for the device. A system or piece of software so powerful, it would actually control and manage the way media is distributed.<\/p>\n Since 2001 and the introduction of the First iPod, Apple have been sued on multiple occasions regarding the iPod and the technology behind it, but in the Burst.com case in 2006, Apple actually called in Kramer to give evidence of his technology and the invention he came up with all those years ago. Even Kramer’s ‘Concept’ art drawings (one seen above – original image courtesy of Wired) were said to be used to fight the case.<\/p>\n In a few details from the investor’s pitch, it seems Kramer’s original ideas behind the software supporting the IXI could have actually of been outlining the iTunes Music Store, as it is today, all those years ago …<\/p>\n \n“I can’t even bring myself to buy an iPod. Apple did give me one, but it broke down after 8 months …” After Apple allegedly admitting to Kane being the original inventor of the iPod, Kramer who now runs the British Invention Show<\/a>, is now said to be working on a invention much bigger than the iPod. Dubbed ‘Monicall’ the service will allow people to have phone calls recorded and emailed to the various parties as an audio file.<\/p>\n \n“It will speed up business deals and provide a low-cost third-party witness to conversations and agreements. A deal will be done on the phone and that is it – an audio file gets e-mailed over within 30 seconds.” The company was selling 100 iPods every minute in the fourth quarter of 2005.
