The first ever WWDC was held in 1983 and was hosted at Monterey, California and until 2002, WWDC was held in mid-May.

But enough of the past … WWDC10 is about to kick off, and product rumors and leaks are literally at fever pitch.

So – what can we expect? Well, here’s a brief run-down of the story so far. Firstly, Apple is highly expected to announce the next-generation of its iPhone hardware, alongside the possible release of the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 to developers – and here’s how we know this is 99.9% definitely going to happen.

The Next-Gen iPhone – 100% Possibility

The first solid information came in the form of Gawker’s @Gizmodo saga, were the site allegedly bought the next generation iPhone off of someone who had stolen it off an Apple engineer (still with me?) the previous night. Apple then confirmed this was in fact Apple property sending a letter to Gawker to return it. They added it was considered a “prototype”. Shortly afterward Apple enthusiasts @iSpazio leaked what appeared to be the bezel from the next-gen iPhone, all but confirming the next-gen device would have a larger resolution.

Then a video which surfaced on social sharing network @YouTube, with SmartPhoneMedic posting a first video look at the new iPhone’s outer case. Interestingly enough, the video also seemed to match the photos from Apple’s claimed ‘prototype’ previously leaked by Gizmodo.

Hot out of Vietnam then came another iPhone prototype which had supposedly been discovered, with the new claimed owners taoviet.vn, releasing both full video and photos of the device publicly, for everyone to scrutinize. A few days afterward, @MacRumors reported Taiwanese site Apple.pro had a recent posting which depicted the “next-gen” iPhone’s bezel with a never-before-seen White fascia, and a few days after that, the site posted full shots of the next-gen iPhone device with the previously pictured fascia in tact.

Then on May 25th, @AppleInsider reported a trusted source had confirmed Apple is working on a new set of exclusive adverts for the next iPhone, with Academy Award winning director Sam Mendes, and on May 29th @9to5Mac claimed via a tweet that they had received a tip from a person claiming to be an AT&T employee, stating the “iPhone HD” would hit store shelves June 25th, alongside the tipster stating the back of the device would be ‘touchable”.

Finally, on May 28th @Digg founder @KevinRose confirmed via talks with @TWiT that he supposedly owned the device.

In a nutshell, if the next-generation iPhone isn’t announced Monday, I will eat my shorts.

iPhone OS 4 – 80% Possibility

It’s guaranteed that Jobs will spend a good portion of the keynote talking about the upcoming iPhone OS 4. New iPhone SDK developer seeds have been regularly released every two weeks until this past week, indicating that Apple is likely saving up the most recent changes for WWDC. We’re not yet sure when the final version will be released to customers.

According to Apple at their last press event, iPhone OS 4.0 is expected to hit for iPad users later this year.

[via @MacRumors]

Changes to Cloud-Based Services 70% Possibility

While some observers have speculated about a possible launch of a cloud-based iTunes service at WWDC, industry sources suggest such a service isn’t imminent. Steve Jobs did reveal earlier this week, however, that Apple has been working on some sort of wireless syncing for the iPhone.

One unconfirmed rumor has also suggested that Apple may begin offering a free version of MobileMe as part of a cloud-based initiative.

[via @MacRumors]

Mac Pro – 60-70% Possibility

Apple’s Mac Pro line is overdue for updates. The last revision for the Mac Pro was in March 2009. Intel has already introduced new processors that would be suitable for the Mac Pro, though volume shipments of the 6-core Xeon chips were delayed until June. We’ve also heard whispers that Apple could be readying the new Mac Pros very soon.

A report from earlier this year also indicated that Apple was prepping a new 27″ LED Cinema Display for launch “by June”. The display is said to utilize the same panel used in the 27″ iMac and closely resemble the 24″ LED Cinema Display that launched in late 2008.

[via @MacRumors]

Apple TV – 50% Possibility

A recent rumor reported that Apple was working on a completely revamped Apple TV. While streaming content will be the focus of the device, users will also have the option of pairing the new Apple TV with a Time Capsule for external local storage.

The new device is said to be based directly on iPhone OS 4. If true, WWDC might be a natural venue to introduce the device, although the report indicated that we should not expect an announcement there as Apple seeks to keep attention focused primarily on the iPhone.

[via @MacRumors]

Mac OS X 10.7 – Less Than 30% Possibly

The next major release of Mac OS X has been in use since at least October 2009. Web records for MacRumors show that Apple has been using 10.7 internally since that time. While early rumors have pointed to the possibility of a Mac OS X 10.7 announcement at this year’s WWDC, the most recent reports have nixed that plan.

Marked extracts quoted from @MacRumorsRSS

The question is; What would you like to see at WWDC? Leave your own predictions in the comments as to what you think we might see June 7, and don’t forget to join us LIVE from 5:30PM BST for our full coverage on the event – here.

On Monday, Apple as a company will take to the stage for the 17th time, presenting their annual WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference).
