So I did .. and I was amazed.

After forking out only $9.99USD I was about to experience the most amazing driving game to hit the iPad. The graphics are absolutely stunning, the sounds are amazing and the controls, they’re just surreal. After delving into the first career race, I realised that this wasn’t just another racing application to hit the iPad, but a fully fledged, and guaranteed winner. The ability to unlock vehicles, race on numerous tracks only available to the iPad, and then to be able to verse people online, life can’t get much better.

To be brutally honest, the controls seem way to easy for my liking. However, @Firemint, allowed the gamer the ability to chose between five different controls. My favourite, manual braking and accelerating, tilt to turn. With these different setups, gaming experience jumps from 4 to 10 in a matter of a few races. Learning the controls is easy enough, however when it comes to turning, only needing to adjust the iPad to the left or right slightly is enough to turn the sharpest of corners.

I dropped my PS3 controller and NFS: Shift for Real Racing HD mainly due to the fact that it is so graphically beautiful to play on the iPad. The graphics in this game completely harness the power of the A4 processing chip in the iPad, allowing for custom skins and the sort to be added to the functionality of the game itself. The cars all sound and look amazing, especially when you download a few custom skins that are available on the web.

The addiction didn’t stop there for me. Playing against mates at school has been an awesome experience. I’m yet to take the dive into online play, but local play at the moment is suiting me just fine. The ability to decide what track, what type of car, how many laps, who you want to join, need I say more? Multiplayer is amazing.

So now you’re sitting there thinking, what else can this racing game have that makes it stand out that much more from the rest? Take for example, personalised music tracks while playing. Correct me if I’m wrong, but there is no way to create custom music tracks on any PS3 racing game. The sole fact that I can now listen to my own music with the sound of a roaring muscle car or a purring exotic car playing as well, that is heaven for a gamer like myself.

You really do have to play it to be able to understand the power behind this application, and the immense fun had while playing.

Gameplay [rating:4/5]
Controls [rating:4/5]
Graphics/Sound [rating:4/5]

[rating:overall]

As a huge racing game fan since I was around two, and being a proud iPad owner, I thought to myself maybe I really should check out Real Racing HD.
