Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). The Dark Knight wants to finally get rid of organized crime for good and be free of their corruption. Batman soon finds that a new psychopathic mastermind known as the Joker (Heath Ledger) has taken over organized crime. After the fall of Carmine Falcone, the remaining crime bosses try to pick up the pieces. However, the Joker is killing them off one by one. The Joker’s plan is to terrify the citizens and throw the city into chaos, and then kill Batman. Batman takes the fight with the Joker personal, which makes him confront his own beliefs. The Joker is the most dangerous criminal that Batman has encountered, and he will need all his strength and vigilance to defeat him. Douglas Young (the-movie-guy) …

Brief Overview (No Spoilers)
The Dark Knight sees the long-anticipated return of the joker to the big screen. Played by the late Heath Ledger the joker resembles, as ever, a psychopathic, out-of-control figure who likes to wreak havoc whenever and wherever he can. While scheming these ever, almost guaranteed, life-or-death predicaments for his victims, the joker doesn’t let-up on skillfully teasing the law enforcement authorities of Gotham City, of his actual location, and his next point and method of attack. The lead role, played by Christian Bail sees an as-ever gentleman, Bruce Wayne, turn from the white knight, into a ruthless fighter against gangs and mobs of Gotham, whipping out ever-more-featured guns, auto-mobiles and more to increase his chances of victory. Not only is batman fighting crime, he’s also facing Gotham’s own law enforcement and Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), after a series of events tarnish his reputation.

Another face we see is, Harvey Dent. Played by Aaron Eckhart, Harvey is the new kid on the block. Managing to convict nearly all the criminals of Gotham, on one night alone, Harvey Dent becomes that of a wanted man. Fighting for his life, and the lives of others we see a heroic figure emerge, but not without that of something much, much, sinister …

Cast:

    – Christian Bale (Batman/Bruce Wayne)
– Heath Ledger (The Joker)
– Michael Caine (The Butler)
– Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox)
– Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent)
– Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel Dawes)
– Gary Oldman (Gordon)
– Eric Roberts (Salvatore Maroni)
– Cillian Murphy (Scarecrow)
– Anthony Michael Hall (Mike Engel)
– Michael Jai White (Gambol)
– William Fichtner (Bank Manager)

Visuals & Cinematics
If you want a film which delivers by near-head-blowing-explosions, death-deifying stunts, and has truly been spectacularly filmed, this is it. From the Jokers death-ridden stunts, to Bruce Wayne’s counter-moves as batman, this film is on the edge, jumpy in parts and truly satisfying.

Cinematographer Wally Pfister shot on location in Chicago, bringing a gritty reality to a cartoon fantasy.

[Note – This is one of THE best comic to big screen adaptations I’ve ever encountered.]

Casting
As you can see above, the cast is rock solid on this one. The performance of Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart and Gary Oldman together, was utterly superb. Ledger, plays an exceptionally-crazed-brilliance at bringing the mentality and personality of the joker to the big screen. So much so, you’d actually think the joker himself was playing the joker.

Summary
This film definitely deserves to be recognized among the greatest films ever to be put into production. A fast-paced, thrilling ride through the high’s and lows of Gotham’s greatest heros. The sheer gel of characters, story-line, stunning cinematography and acting within The Dark Knight, and the excellent performance from Heath Ledger, bringing the joker to life, utterly seals this film as being the best film of the year, so far. It has literally ripped into the ‘blanket of bland’ we call, Summer films.

Rating: 10/10
(Perfect, Highly Recommended, A Must See)

R-Fly

So, over the weekend I went to watch one of the most anticipated, famed films of the year.
