The iPhone Fold has been one of those Apple rumours that just refuses to go away.

For years, we’ve been hearing that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone – and now that we’re getting closer to its expected arrival, the leaks are starting to feel a little more concrete.

The latest one comes from a rather familiar name in the world of smartphone accessories: Spigen.

The company has shared a post on X showing what appears to be an accessory made for Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone.

And while it doesn’t exactly give us a complete look at the phone, it does give us another interesting glimpse at the design Apple could be going for.

""
Is this part of the final design for iPhone Fold? – Spigen

At first glance, there’s nothing particularly dramatic about it.

It’s a case.

But that’s what makes this image quite interesting.

A case has to ultimately be made around an actual set of exact dimensions. Spigen needs to know, for example, roughly how big the device is, where the cameras sit, where the buttons are and, in this case, how the whole thing folds.

And what we’re seeing here looks pretty consistent with the design we’ve been hearing about for months.

The iPhone Fold is expected to use a book-style folding design, with a normal-ish smartphone display on the outside and a much larger screen waiting inside.

Open it up and you’re essentially turning the iPhone into a small tablet.

That’s hardly a new idea these days, but Apple’s version could be quite different in the details.

It looks increasingly like this is the design

We’ve now seen enough leaks and rumours pointing in the same direction that the overall shape of the iPhone Fold is becoming easier to imagine.

Rather than going for an unusual or experimental design, Apple appears to be taking a fairly familiar approach.

""
iPhone Fold concept – Google/Future

And honestly, I think that makes sense.

Apple has had years to watch Samsung, Google and others figure out what works with foldable phones. It has also had plenty of time to see what doesn’t work.

So when Apple finally enters the market, I wouldn’t be surprised if the philosophy is basically:

Take a foldable phone and make it feel like an iPhone.

That’s probably easier said than done.

There are still plenty of questions around durability, the crease, thickness, weight and, of course, the software experience.

But the hardware itself is starting to feel much less mysterious.

Spigen’s post is another little piece of the puzzle.

I wouldn’t take this as absolute confirmation that we’ve just seen the final iPhone Fold.

""
The company copied the format and style of newly appointed CEO, John Ternus’s underrated first tweet to announce the (possible) new accessory.

Accessory makers work with information well before products reach the public, and designs can change wildly during their final development stages.

But Spigen is also not some random account posting a blurry photograph of a phone-shaped object.

It’s a major accessory company, and if this really is an iPhone Fold accessory, it suggests the company has a pretty good idea of what Apple’s hardware is going to look like.

And that’s probably the most intriguing part.

We’ve already had alleged pricing from Australia, reports about potential pre-order dates and a growing collection of renders and dummy units.

Now we’re starting to see accessories enter the picture too.

Suddenly, the iPhone Fold doesn’t feel quite so much like a product that exists only in Apple’s rumour mill.

It feels like a product that is actually getting ready to arrive.

Of course, Apple hasn’t shown us anything yet.

But if these leaks are anywhere close to the truth, we might already have a pretty good idea of what the first foldable iPhone is going to look like.

And after all these years, I’m really looking forward to seeing whether the real thing lives up to the hype.
