Apple\u2019s first foldable iPhone might not be called the iPhone Fold<\/a> at all. And it could cost $2,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

According to Mark Gurman, Apple has settled on iPhone Duo as the name for its long-awaited foldable<\/a> \u2014 and the latest details make it sound increasingly like a completely new class of iPhone.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The starting price is reportedly around $2,000<\/strong>, with Apple apparently choosing to absorb some of the additional memory costs<\/a> rather than passing all of them on to customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if $2,000 sounds expensive, things get considerably more interesting at the top end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gurman says storage configurations will reach 2TB, with the highest-capacity model costing roughly $3,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is an eye-watering amount for an iPhone, but it also starts to explain how Apple could be positioning the Duo: not simply as a larger iPhone<\/a>, but as a premium device designed to blur the line between phone, tablet and computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are other interesting details, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The iPhone Duo is reportedly set to support Apple Pencil<\/a>, adding another layer to the larger inner display and potentially making the device considerably more useful for notes, creativity and productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colour options are said to include dark blue and white, giving the Duo a surprisingly restrained launch palette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gurman reports that the iPhone Duo<\/a> will ship in October<\/strong><\/a>, meaning Apple could unveil its most radically different iPhone yet at this week\u2019s event \u2014 before putting it into customers\u2019 hands shortly afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If these details hold up, the story isn\u2019t simply that Apple is finally making a foldable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s that Apple may be creating an entirely new tier of iPhone \u2014 with a new name, a $2,000 starting price, up to 2TB of storage, Apple Pencil support and a top-end price approaching $3K<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
