The Duo introduces different display configurations, a physical hinge, new safe-area considerations and entirely new ways of presenting content.

The company’s own guidance recommends using adaptive layouts rather than making assumptions about a particular screen size or orientation. Developers can also use Xcode and Device Hub to simulate different Duo poses and test how their apps respond as the device opens, closes and changes configuration. (Apple Developer)

Apple is also bringing developers into the room

The videos aren’t the only help Apple is offering.

Apple says iPhone Duo workshops will be coming later this month, giving developers the opportunity to optimise their apps and explore resizability across different screen sizes. (Apple Developer)

There will also be two online iPhone Duo Group Labs, where developers can speak with Apple engineers and designers:

September 16, 8–9 p.m. PT

September 17, 8–9 a.m. PT

Apple is also planning dedicated Q&As covering Photos & Camera, SwiftUI and UIKit on September 23. Apple says Xcode 27.1 beta will provide the latest SDKs for building, running and testing apps for iPhone Duo, with the release coming later this month. Additional documentation covering designing for Duo and preparing apps for its dynamically resizing layouts is also on the way. (Apple Developer)

This is the part that could make or break Duo

The hardware might be the headline, but the apps are going to determine whether iPhone Duo actually feels like a new kind of iPhone or simply an enormous folding screen.

Courtesy of Apple

The company appears to understand that.

Rather than leaving developers to figure everything out once the first devices arrive, it’s giving them a pretty detailed roadmap for adapting existing apps — and, hopefully, building some completely new experiences around the Duo’s form factor.

The videos are available right now, so if you’re a developer with an app in the App Store, this might be a good time to start folding things into this unfolding roadmap.

Apple has barely finished introducing the iPhone Duo, and it’s already turning its attention to the people who will make the new foldable feel useful: developers.

[2786,174,16
3620,4,9,3621,1240,3622,3623,3624,3221,805,3619,3618,3336
post-23296","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-apple-blog","category-blog","category-iphone","tag-adaptive-layouts","tag-apple","tag-design","tag-design-for-iphone-duo","tag-developer","tag-flexible-layouts","tag-multi-display-experiences","tag-safe-areas","tag-swift","tag-ui","tag-user-experience","tag-ux","tag-videos
["GET
