But seeing it happen is surprisingly clever.

Instead of treating the Duo like a normal iPhone that’s simply been bent in half, iOS 27 actually understands what you’re doing with the hardware and changes the interface around it.

Fold it slightly, and the display essentially becomes two separate areas.

That could be particularly useful when you’re using the Duo on a desk, watching something, working with an app or simply holding it like a little book. The software responds to the physical position of the phone rather than making you manually tell it what you want.

And that’s where Apple’s approach to the Duo starts to get interesting.

We’ve seen foldable phones automatically change their interfaces before, but Apple has the advantage of controlling both the hardware and software. The company can make these transitions feel like part of iOS rather than a collection of special foldable features bolted on afterwards.

The Duo already has a redesigned iOS layout that keeps things consistent between its outer and inner displays, along with specific behaviour for partially folded positions. (The Verge)

This particular example from Cameron Moll is a great demonstration of that idea.

There’s no menu to open. No setting to toggle.

You just fold the iPhone Duo — and it figures out what you’re trying to do.

That feels very Apple.

And honestly, it’s these tiny interactions that could make the Duo feel less like a phone with a folding screen and more like an entirely new kind of iPhone.

[2786,174,16
4,3067,3651,3650,3649,3610,3581,3652,3653
post-23379","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-apple-blog","category-blog","category-iphone","tag-apple","tag-details","tag-dual-layout","tag-dual-mode","tag-folded","tag-ios-27","tag-iphone-duo","tag-physical-position","tag-software-response
["GET
