Apple hasn\u2019t even put iPhone Duo<\/a> in customers\u2019 hands yet, but it\u2019s already telling developers: start building.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

A new email from Apple tonight is landing with a pretty straightforward message \u2014 iPhone Duo<\/a> is coming, and developers need to be ready for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The email, titled \u201cStart building for iPhone Duo,\u201d<\/strong> points developers towards three things they can use right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First up is Xcode 27.1 beta<\/a><\/strong>, giving developers the tools they need to start working with iPhone Duo and its new screen configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then there are updated Figma and Sketch design kits<\/a><\/strong> available through Apple\u2019s Design Resources, giving designers the official components and layouts needed to start thinking about how their apps should look across Duo\u2019s displays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Apple isn\u2019t stopping at software and design files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also encouraging developers to sign up for workshops covering how to optimise apps and build customised experiences for different screen sizes<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That last part is probably the most interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because iPhone Duo<\/a> isn\u2019t simply another iPhone with a bigger display. Developers are going to have to think about how an app behaves as that display changes shape and configuration \u2014 and Apple clearly wants developers experimenting with that before launch day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The timing is telling, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple is effectively giving developers a head start before iPhone Duo<\/a> reaches the public, rather than waiting for launch day and hoping everyone catches up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hardware might still be sitting in Apple Stores waiting for the October 16 pre-sale<\/a>, and launch day<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
