From big corporations with a clear marketing budget, to small unknowns with little advertising means. Some have succeeded. Other have not. I thought we’d pin-point just some of the developers (and their applications), which we think are currently front running in design, functionality and status …

Becoming known on the App Store relies on three factors:

Knowing your market

Making sure your application’s UI design is exceptional

Listening to your user base

The developers which I am going highlight have done just that. While recently ejecting it’s founder and architect Mike Lee, the company has gained a status to be reckoned with. They first hit the store with the smash hit Tap Tap Revenge, the Guitar Hero alternative. In less than 2 months they’d gained a astronomical 1M users. Next was Twinkle. Taking the simplicity of Twitter and an eye-candy filled UI, Tapulous designed what we argue to be the best Twitter client for iPhone to date, barring Twitteriffic. But they are not stopping there. Tapulous already have two more applications in the pipeline. Collage and Fortune. We recently gave you a heads up on Collage, saying it would be ‘the only way to share photos on iPhone’ and we truly believe it will be. Finally fortune is a fun little application resembling a fortune cookie. It’s unclear whether these applications will be free as of yet, but seeing as though Tap Tap and Twinkle have no price, I doubt they’ll charge for either of new these titles, although i could be wrong.

Official Site: www.tapulous.com

Releases (to date)

Tap Tap Revenge [App Store]
Twinkle [App Store]

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

Loopt
Also based in Silicon Valley, Loopt has created a revolutionary social-mapping service that changes the way friends connect, share and explore in the mobile environment.
