Quick, use whatever you can get your hands on – blasters, glue bottles, flashlights and boomerangs to defend yourself! Summon your giant spider to slow your enemies, or use your flying UFO to sap their energy. The game features scary cartoon-styled environments and is played by completing various level maps. Although the maps are quite short, game play is extended by speed that the creeps travel, and amount of weapons available to you as a user.

Gameplay
The Creeps! sees you trying to fend off .. well .. Creeps. For the most part, the game is entirely touch based. You’ll play through a total of 10 levels, over 2 different environments. Just like other TD based games, The Creeps! [App Store] will come in wave upon wave, and your job is to eliminate each wave before it reaches you (the scared kid in the bed). Each level will throw different creeps at you, in a number of differently mixed waves. Certain creeps will have certain weaknesses, while others will not. Although short, the games level maps are surprisingly twisty, making for a great few minutes of game play per wave.

The game works on you strategically placing ‘Towers’ down on along the map, to ensure the fate of the creeps. Each tower you place will have a distinct advantage or property. The more you progress the more towers you will gain to place down. You’ll have to be quick though, along the outside of the map objects obstruct your way, and in order to place more towers, you will have to eliminate those too, while also trying to keeping an eye on the current wave. Each creep that comes out of the closet, will display it’s current life above it’s head in a progress-bar type fashion. Your aim is to kill the creeps.

In parts, and not surprisingly, I found the game became extremely frenzied.

Visuals
Admittedly very cartoon-like, but in a way ‘grown up’. It’s hard to describe. Elements of the game’s design kinda remind me of The Jetsons [Wiki]. Polished, but they do have a hint of ‘Kid’.

Price
Some may argue £2.99 / $4.99 is expensive, I say: I if you were to walk into Starbucks, a good coffee costs just as much – and lets face it, you going to get a lot more use out of playing the The Creeps! on your iPhone, than drinking an over-priced Macchiato. For once I think The Creeps! is actually priced perfectly for it’s audience.

Overall
The Creeps! is definitely a simple and user intuitive version of a TD, but on many levels, it does feel like the ‘baby’ of all the TD games. Possibly something you’d start out on initially if you were new to TD-based games themselves. Not necessarily a bad thing in itself. Visually polished, great addicting game play and fun icon to boot. If we had to place an age group on this, I think your looking at teens (13-19) .. The Creeps! is definitely recommend.

Current Status: Recommended

Reviewed at: v1.1.1
Reviewed on Firmware: 2.2.1
Download size: 5.6MB
Released on: 25th January 2009
Retails for: £2.99 / $4.99

Compatible with: iPod touch Gen 1 & 2 / iPhone Classic / iPhone 3G

Developed by Super Squawk Software, The Creeps is a ‘Tower Defense’ type game in which you try to fend off those pesky creeps, that we all know live in your closet, from getting to you.
