When you feel the need to bust out your iDevice at work for some gaming, games without demanding goals or time limits are the obvious choice!

Sneezies

Sneezies is a fantastic way to pass the time and of course, help you relax. The aim of the game is simple but in no way boring, your goal is to release ‘Sneeze Dust’ in the best possible place to start a chain reaction which allows the Sneezies’ bubbles pop and letting them safely parachute to the ground. The great thing about the game is there’s no time limit or demand from the game, the Sneezies will happily just float around until you decide to let them free.

Sneezies is a very undemanding game, perfect for not only the office but in fact anywhere! With its lavish graphics, quirky sounds and addictive gameplay, this is defiantly a title that will sit on your desk for hours on end. This has to be one of my personal favourites and games I’ve played the most, Sneezies will have to playing at work, in bed, at the pub and just about everywhere. Sneezies is also available in a special ‘Easter Edition’.

Current Status: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Reviewed at: v1.2
Reviewed on Firmware: 2.2.1
Download size: 5.8MB
Released on: 26th January 2009
Retails for: £0.59 / $0.99
Compatible with: iPod touch Gen 1 & 2 / iPhone Classic / iPhone 3G

Smiles

One of the App Stores early hidden gems. In one beautiful package Smiles brings you two game modes. First you have ‘DROP’ which is a match three style game in which you break rocks and ice to score higher points. Secondly you have ‘ZEN’ which is a strategy game. The goal of ‘ZEN’ is to light up the grid by swapping out the various objects in as little moves as possible.

Best thing about these games is there’s no time limit, so you can play as you wish. In ‘DROP’ you just keep playing until its impossible to make any more matches and ‘ZEN’ doesn’t finish until you figure out how to light up the board! Both games also feature multiple game modes, ensured to keep you hooked.

Polished is the best way to describe this game, everything from the graphics right down to the gameplay are perfect. Both ‘DROP’ and ‘ZEN’ include three themes, so you can have more variety and also have a fantastic achievements system which really adds to the already addicting gameplay. Only interested in one of the Smiles games? Thats not a problem as they are also sold separately as well on the App Store.

Current Status: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Reviewed at: v1.1
Reviewed on Firmware: 2.2.1
Download size: 7.9MB
Released on: 23rd January 2009
Retails for: £1.79 / $2.99
Compatible with: iPod touch Gen 1 & 2 / iPhone Classic / iPhone 3G

Textropolis

When it comes down to game length, Textropolis really holds its own. Textropolis comes complete with thirty cities for you to discover. The concept of Textropolis is to find all the words in the cities, for example the first city in the game is ‘Kingstown’ and there’s 95 words to find. As you progress and get more words for the city, you unlock new cities which have higher word counts and may become more difficult.

As you can probably imagine, the game really does have a long life span and is perfect for you to play at your desk. A great idea for this game is to play with a few office colleagues, select a city and a time limit, all right down as many words as possible for the chosen city and then input them into the game after and see how well you all done. Yes this has been tried and tested by me.

Current Status: RECOMMENDED
Reviewed at: v1.3
Reviewed on Firmware: 2.2.1
Download size: 1.3MB
Released on: 4th May 2009
Retails for: £0.59 / $0.99
Compatible with: iPod touch Gen 1 & 2 / iPhone Classic / iPhone 3G

7 Cities

While there are many tower defense games available in the App Store, 7 Cities really stands out with its classy hand drawn maps and its array of game modes. The simple but not necessarily easy goal of 7 Cities is to defend your city. One of the great things about the game is the ability to upgrade your towers, along with the ‘Skill Unlocker’ tree allow you to unlock new towers and skills to defend your city.

Although 7 Cities could potentially be a little demanding from the player at times, it conveniently has a play and pause button which is very useful if your in an office environment. 7 Cities is a fantastic game whether your a casual or hardcore gamer and will certainly keep you entertained for hours.

Current Status: RECOMMENDED
Reviewed at: v1.5.3
Reviewed on Firmware: 2.2.1
Download size: 40.5MB
Released on: 3rd May 2009
Retails for: £1.79 / $2.99
Compatible with: iPod touch Gen 1 & 2 / iPhone Classic / iPhone 3G
<a href="http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=299605743&mt=8"_blank">

Epic Pet Wars

Epic Pet Wars is built on a long standing genre that most of you will be familar with, Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. There are many similar MMORPG games in the App Store such as iMob, iMobster and Vampire to name only a few. The ‘Top Free’ section of the Role Playing genre in the App Store is dominated by them.

Out of all the MMORPG games there are available in the App Store, Epic Pet Wars is my personal favourite. The aim of the game is to level up your pet, kit it out with armour and weapons, build up your ‘posse’ and battle with other players in order to become more powerful. Epic Pet Wars is an extremely easy game to pick up and is accompanied by a fantastic user interface and great community of over 150,000 players.

Epic Pet Wars is by no means a demanding title for iPhone, you can up as much or as little time into the game as you like, while your away your pet will sit there happily waiting for you to return.

If you don’t have an iPhone or iPod Touch, no worries. Your can join in the fun on the Epic Pet Wars Website and on FaceBook too! Sadly due to the nature of the game those of you with an iPod Touch will have to make sure you in a WiFi zone to be able to play.
