Professor at your local University? Maybe you’re a teacher at your local school or college? Developed by Blackboard Inc, today the company has announced the release of Blackboard Mobile Learn for iPad. An all-in-one solution to taking information about every subject you teach, on the move.
Available on the App Store today, Blackboard Mobile Learn is an application which allows members of staff and students alike to keep up to date with course curriculum, send out class-wide announcements, let students check grades and assignments, add discussion board comments and blog posts and even email instructors and classmates.
Its one of the first apps the new device we’ve seen which involves the implementation of a separate ‘Window’ layered environment for content opened within in. In Blackboard Mobile Learn for iPad, you can open up any number of content windows. Need to hide some? Just flick them to the side of the screen and they’ll morph into tappable folder-like tabs.
“The iPad can fundamentally change the way students navigate their educational experience,” said Michael L. Chasen, Blackboard’s president and CEO. “We think there’s a lot of potential for mobile learning to drive greater student engagement, and we want to be at the forefront of bringing those innovations to institutions and users.”
The company has made the application free on certain Wi-Fi devices, beginning with the iPad, in an effort to help institutions get started quickly in mobile and to encourage use of the iPad as a learning tool.
In June, institutions will be able to expand support for Blackboard Mobile Learn to a broad range of device platforms — including iPhone OS, Android and BlackBerry — through an annual license, that will enable native applications for each and will be available for download by students and faculty on the App Store.
Just another way the iPad may change the face of Education. The app is available for download now on iTunes US for the mighty price of FREE.
