Vampire Origins is out now on the App Store ”“ $6.99
We have a brand new sponsor, @Chillingo! Look out for this segment to be continued for months to come. Thanks guys!
Boom! This week is one for the record books as we have officially cracked the $10 price point for iPhone games! Thanks to @SquareEnixDLG who really had no choice but to increase the price on the 3D RPG just so it cost more than their various 2D RPG’s, we can finally branch into larger and more detailed games for both the iPhone and iPad. While games like GTA have managed to stay below the $10 mark, if this game is successful for a long time expect our @EA’s and @Activision’s to slowly but surely bring out bigger games for higher prices. Oh and amazingly we have a few more games to talk about as well 🙂
Chaos Rings – $12.99
Chaos Rings is the first real game that has broken the fabled $9.99 barrier for an iPhone game. Square Enix has brought out Song Summoner for $9.99 and Final Fantasy I & II for $8.99 each, so it is only fair that a 3D RPG would ask for a higher price. Obviously the most exciting thing about this game is that we get a game that is what we should have had instead of the old FF I & II ports. The graphics are excellent on my 1st gen iPod and immaculate on the 3GS. For a game that hasn’t been on any other platforms I am extremely surprised that Square Enix put so much effort into the iDevice.
The basic story goes that you have been captured and must fight your way through the arena so obtain immortality. You can play through the game 5 times, each with a different character and storyline that affects how you act. The game is quite addicting and after finishing with one character I felt like I wanted to play through with the other characters. Obviously the fight cut scenes are the highlight of this game as you unleash some impressive attacks on even more impressive creatures that the devs created. I was skeptical at first, but this game is worth all of the 1,299 cents.
Fast & Furious Adrenaline – $5.99
I was extremely excited for this title. The previous Fast & Furious games I have played on the App Store have been a heap of fun and were really up there as the best racing games for a while. Fast & Furious Adrenaline to me doesn’t really live up to the previous titles, moving away from the game style that worked for more of a cross between Raging Thunder 2’s graphics and Need for Speed Undercover’s gameplay. The game features 35 races with loads of cars and 5 race modes, but I just feel like it is lacking that bit of originality that made the second title in particular successful.
This game is quite fun, but relatively easy as you progress through the game by earning levels that unlock faster cars. You must take over the city by racing other gangs for land, but if you lose nothing happens and you just get to replay the race. There isn’t enough risk for reward in this game like there was in Pink Slip where you were putting your car on the line to win another one. This isn’t a bad game but is lacking some originality for me. If you are really looking for a new racing game this is one to pick up, but you can get better racing games with your $5.99.
Blokus – $4.99
Blokus isn’t a game that I have played all too often, maybe once or twice in my life. I took the opportunity to pick up this title and was pleasantly surprised at how much fun this was when you had the option of online multiplayer or solo mode. While EA are the undisputed kings of board games on the App Store, @Gameloft certainly know how to make a great title when given the opportunity. This game offers plenty of game modes, five in total as well as multiplayer.. but for some reason they haven’t include single-device multiplayer which is what I use all the time for UNO.
The aim of Blokus is to place all your pieces onto the puzzle board while stopping all your opponents from doing so. You can only place pieces if they are connected to your own pieces by the corners, meaning that no sides of the same colour can be touching. This game requires a bit of strategy to complete but after a few games you will have a good idea of what pieces to use when and where. Whether you plan on playing this by yourself or with friends there is a lot to do. This is one game to consider when going you are looking for a board game to play.
Other Notable Releases this week Include:
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by SEGA
Mikado Defenders by Taito Corp
Monkey Tennis by Sauce Digital
Mystery of Unicorn Castle by Playcreek
