Ever since the iPad was first rumored, many questioned the apparent issue of developers wanting to charge more, for essentially the same experience on a larger screen. And with the iPad App Store now in the full swing of things in the US, it is becoming increasingly clear iPad users should expect to pay more for their apps, than they would for the same apps on the iPhone and iPod touch.

@TUAW today notes that according to the Netherlands-based apps analytics firm @Distimo, the average iPad application will cost iPad users roughly a dollar more (66p), than if they bought the same application on their iPhone. The firm discovered that iPhone apps were averaging out at roughly $3.87, while iPad apps came in at $4.67.

The firm also notes that 80% of iPad apps downloaded are actually paid. Now compare this to the iPhone as it stand now, and Distimo say only 73% of iPhone apps downloaded are paid. Medical and financial applications came out of the study as the most expensive, each averaging out at $42.11 and $18.48 respectively.

As TUAW highlights, these figures are way higher than the iPhone’s $10.74 and $5.74 averages for the same categories.
