Up for a bit of old-style fun? Developed by SMHK Funlab, PadRacer is a new app for both iPhone and iPad which brings classic 1980s overhead racing back in style.
In a nutshell, with PadRacer you can race your friends and family, using your iPad as the track and controlling all of the cars on the track with just your iPhone’s. Currently awaiting App Store approval, the FREE friend controller app once downloaded can be used to control each player’s car, wirelessly.
All you need to begin playing is an iPhone, an iPad and the actual game, currently selling for £2.99. As soon as you have the game, your other devices simple connect to the game wirelessly, essentially meaning you only have to buy the game once for all your devices. Each player gets to see their car is a static form on each connected device, and steering is controlled by tilting with the use of the accelerometer.
We don’t know what it is, but there’s definitely a certain charm about this sort of gameplay we just couldn’t ignore. Worth it’s price, well .. maybe. We’d like to see a few more tracks added, but other than that this is pure office style fun.
Its so far unclear if the PadRacer friend controller app will use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to connect, but if we had to guess we’d take a stab at this working over bluetooth. We’ll have a full review just as soon as the wireless controller app hits the store. Until then, enjoy the short video above!
