Stick It – Notes on Your Wallpaper!

What does a productivity nerd such as myself do with the gorgeous screen of his iPad?  I put my todo lists and notes all over it!  With “Stick It” for iPad by TapFactory, you can accomplish this and more, all without the adhesive residue left behind!

When you launch Stick It, you’re presented with one of the awesome 19 built in backgrounds.  Of course you can always choose from your camera roll as well.  The top of the screen is home to the main app menu where you can select the plethora of sticky styles and designs included, sharing and preview options, and a folder style organizer.  At the bottom left, behind the flipped up corner, is where you can choose from the other backgrounds.

After settling on your choice of backgrounds, you add notes with the + icon at the top.  There is a wide variety of designs to choose from, and they all just look great!  Whether you like realistic scraps of paper or cute hearts, you’re covered.  In addition to just plain sticky notes, you can also insert calendars which are great for referencing at a glance while on the go.  I usually add the current month and the next month to my wallpapers so I can plan upto a month in advance.  Once you have a note created, you can place it anywhere on the screen, edit the style of the text with one of the 15 fonts ranging in size from 8pt to 50pt as well as alignment and color.

One of the great features of Stick It, is categories.  Let’s say you have several notes for work, home, and (in my case) a band, you can construct multiple wallpapers and file each under a category.  This helps alleviate over stuffing every note in the world on your home screen, and quick access to editing the wallpaper you need.  As an added benefit, you could even use different wallpapers based on when and where you’ll be using your iPad.

Another great concept was the implementation of Bump which is rather unique.  Though I was not able to test this, being the only guy at my work who has an Apple product (they can’t help it that they haven’t seen the light), but I wish I could have.  I’m not sure why I would rely on this feature but I could see some really neat opportunities in a more formalized team environment.

As with any wallpaper or screen lock application, Apple limits the developer’s access to the wallpaper functions of the iPhone OS.  This means that the apps aren’t allowed to automatically update the home screen or lock screen from within the app, forcing the user to save a photo to the camera roll, exit the app, and select the wallpaper from the Settings.app.  Hopefully with the newer access to the OS’s structure in 4.0 we will see a better implementation than the current method.

The developer has mentioned that in a future update, stickies with be able to be resized, which was welcoming to hear since sometimes I felt the selected note was too large or small for my notes content.  Besides that need, I haven’t felt any urge to request features in the two months of heavy use I’ve put Stick It through.  Usually I will have at least four feature requests or modifications after about a week, not here.  This was really nice to experience.

Stick It provides a great way to recall your tasks and notes at a glance of your home screen, using beautiful graphics worthy of the iPad’s screen.  With it’s sleek interface, you can quickly organize your todo’s and thoughts so that you can focus more on doing, not configuring.
