If you were sleeping under a rock, you may not be aware that the 4th iteration of iOS4 became public yesterday.

iOS4 which features a bunch of jailbreak-esque functionality including the ability to create folders for different genres of apps, change the default homescreen wallpaper and more, hit iTunes at 10:00AM PST yesterday afternoon, right as we predicted.

But alongside the release of the software for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch Gen 2 and Gen 3, Apple made available another file available for download on its servers. The iTunes restore file for iPhone 4.

With the hardware not publicly available until Thursday, June 24th, Apple yesterday made the official firmware restore file, which is used to install iOS4 via iTunes when you usually “Check for Update”, available for the unreleased iPhone 4.

You can download the firmware now directly from Apple.com.
