Apple: iPhone 4 “Death Grip” Issue Is HARDWARE Related? – [RUMOR]

If you’re not yet aware there is a rather annoying issue which is plaguing new iPhone 4 users, and although it was originally thought the fault was software related with the rumor that iOS 4.01 could hit as early as tomorrow, new information is now surfacing which suggests the issue may in fact lie in the iPhone 4’s new hardware.

To make sure they didn’t have to spoil the new design by having a huge docking black bar running along the top of the phone, Apple decided to integrate the antenna into the actual structure of the phone. Hidden from view in what Jobs called “really cool engineering”.

But the change has caused an issue which has so far been able to be reproduced by costumers in all five launch countries. Its called the ‘Death Grip’. So, what is it? Well if you happen to hold your new iPhone 4 in your left hand with the bottom left quadrant of your palm covering the bottom left corner of the phone, you may start to see a change in signal strength when connected over 3G.

Today, Twitter user @WilliamMR tweeted the following which suggests that Apple customer service regard the “Death Grip” issue as originating from the iPhone 4’s new hardware and antenna system – and as a result the rumor of Apple Stores giving out FREE bumpers cases, which surfaced yesterday was not true. William was told he had to buy a bumper.

“Just been told by apple cs iPhone 4 #deathgrip is hardware related? & we are not giving out free #bumpers”

As always though, none of this has been confirmed by Apple other than a supposed e-mail from Apple CEO Steve Jobs which read:

“There is no reception issue. Stay tuned.”

We’ll be sure to update you on the latest on this seemingly wide-spread issue as and when we have it.

Nope. Apple Customer service knows nothing. No more than we do.
