iOS4 Causing iPod App to Crash Back to the Homescreen?

Today we got a tip from Twitter user Jason Freeman (@jayfreeman98) who noted that since upgrading to iOS4 he has been experiencing issues with iPod.app – and it seems that heading over to Apple Discussions, Jason may not be alone in the issue.

While the specific cause of the issue is not yet known, the issue only seems to be affecting users who have recently updated to the 4th iteration of Apple’s iOS mobile operating system, iOS4, which was released to the public last Monday.

Apple Discussions forum member ‘biguk’ posted the following thread:

After doing the 4.0 update yesterday, which appeared to initially be okay. I’ve now found that my iPod app no longer works. It white screens and then pulls me back to the home screen.

Although I’ve back up all my music, I can’t check it, as I can’t access the library on the phone.

The issue joins a multitude of other issues Apple has had to contend with with the iPhone 4 at launch, including the now world renown “Death Grip” reception issue and supposed faulty volume buttons.

But the defects haven’t stopped Apple’s drive to sell the product, or in fact their ability to entice the market to buy the product, with the company announcing it had sold 1.7 Million in the space of just 3 days, after the product’s initial international launch on June 24th.

This happened to me after I downloaded a podcast on the phone using the iTunes store app. iPod app would crash after opening. I just plugged my phone into iTunes and synced it and iPod player works just fine. I have seen other people on the web verifying that this fix works for them as well.

I've seen a few issues with upgrading to iOS4 and not doing a sync afterward. For me all my pictures in Photos.app were blurry until I synced. Have these guys tried doing a full restore?
