Happy with iPad?

Yesterday, as many of you know, Apple’s most important product since its initial launch of the original iPhone was released. With hundreds of thousands of people camping out in long lines to get a glimpse of the iPad, and first reports of sales numbers being in the 600-700,000, its safe to say the launch has been a success for Apple.

But, like most first generation products, they rarely come without flaws. Looking around today at the aftermath of the US launch, we’ve noticed a few (so far seemingly isolated) incidents, which have resulted in the owner being a little underwhelmed. One member of the MacRumors community reports he effectively received his device dead on arrival (DOA). While the device was able to be turned on, it turned out the accelerometer inside the device was a dud. The screen did not rotate as advertised.

Luckily, according to the buyer, the issue was resolved by Apple in-store swiftly:

“The Apple Genius looked it over, checked the switch and it still did not work… the Accelerometer must not have been functioning. So we locked the screen and tried to un-lock again, but the screen would not wake. The tech even tried a reset, but the device wouldn’t come back on…. it had registered a 98% charge initially.”

So, thankfully we hadn’t left the store yet, and they swapped our my new iPad with a new one, and everything is now perfect.

Another complained of having a dead pixel smack-bang in the middle of his screen.

“I’ve been messing around with my iPad for a while and all was going good until I opened up a Sketching app. The background was white and I noticed a black dot right in the center of the screen. Thinking it was dust or some kind of smudge or something, I go to wipe it off, only to see that it won’t come off. It must be something under the screen.”

We’ve seen dead pixels crop up as an issue before with the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and 3GS launches. In fact, they’re so inevitable in the LCD screen technology used, that Apple is said to have an unwritten rule of replacing all units with 3 or more of these dead pixels (different to stuck pixels), without question.

So, we ask the burning question — Are you happy with iPad?

Did your iPad arrive with any noticeable or visible issues? — So far, these issues appear to be happening far and wide apart. We should have our hands on our 16GB model this coming Wednesday, at the latest. Feel free to chime in with your own launch experiences below!

I'm more than happy. This device is all it was advertised and then some. The videos were right. The interface just falls away because you're interacting with the objects directly.
