If you haven’t heard of @Dropbox by now, you’re missing out. Dropbox is a cross-platform computer application that syncs files onto a Dropbox server. This server can be viewed as a folder on other computers which you have been validated. On a Macintosh or other computer, you simply drag a file into the Dropbox folder, and it immediately  syncs with other computers/devices.

The files are even viewable online. Now Dropbox is available for iPhone. View compatible files like images, .doc or .docx, compatible videos, and more on your iPhone, without downloading. In fact, all you have to do is download the free Dropbox application from the App Store.

If you do not already use Dropbox, you will be prompted to create a free account before resuming in the application. If you have previously used Dropbox, just login with your account details. The user interface is simply the well known iPhone list UI. Noticeably, there are 3 tabs at the bottom. These are labeled Favorites, My Dropbox, and Settings. Tapping on the My Dropbox tab will show all your files associated with your Dropbox. Just click a viewable file to view it. Tapping the star button, when viewing a file, will save it onto the favorites tab. I can easily copy, email, or save photos from my Dropbox.

As you can see, the application syncs up your files from other devices with Dropbox installed. This is a screenshot of my Dropbox folder on my computer. Notice how the folder is synced with the application.

I use @Dropbox daily. Now with an iPhone application, I find it even easier to sync files across multiple devices. The best part about the app is that it is FREE. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially if you find you can become very disorganized.

Dropbox is the best way to get documents onto your iPad without needing to plug in with a USB cable and sync through iTunes, which I find to be very clumsy. With Dropbox you can automatically edit any of your Word or Pages (or Keynote/PPT or Number/XLS) documents directly from your iPad without having to connect with a computer. Frankly, I think Dropbox is the best way to get documents from your computer to an iPad. Best of all, it keeps backups of your recent versions so you can roll back a change after having saved it to disk.
