Integrating the company’s InDesign CS5 for the purpose of assisting print publishers with converting their content to iPad-compatible formats, @Adobe has today announced the launch of their own publishing platform.
Having recently converted @WIRED magazine from Flash to Objective-C, the company notes they think they’re ready to offer this service to more publishers of major publications.
“Adobe’s work with WIRED has resulted in a digital magazine format that creates an immersive experience, allowing a publication’s unique content, look and feel and advertising to stand out in the digital realm,” said David Burkett, vice president and general manager, Creative Solutions at Adobe.
“We aim to make our digital viewer software available to all publishers soon and plan to deliver versions that work across multiple hardware platforms. It’s safe to say that if you are already working in InDesign CS5, you’ll be well on your way to producing a beautiful digital version of your publication.”
This new platform will reportedly allow Adobe to integrate features such as embedded video and slideshows, 360-degree interactive images, touch gesture support, and zooming modes, alongside the tight integration of new advertising methods.
Specifically targeting tablet computers and smartphones such as Apple’s iPad and iPhone, the company’s new platform will allow publishers of physical media to realise their content in a more digitally interactive and user-intuitive way.
