  • CONFIRMED: UK iPhone 4 is Covered Under Warranty, In Australia

If you’re not yet aware, Apple offer a FREE online service called the “Repair Warranty Checker” for any Apple product you happen to purchase. The service specializes in returning a date that you are covered for warranty until, based on the SN assigned to the product (now found on the box).

Today, I decided to give it a shot with my UK bought iPhone 4, selecting Australia as the country.

What surprised me was the fact that it is actually covered under warranty, meaning if I was to break it or anything like that, Apple would have to exchange or replace it.

This comes as a surprise to me as I wouldn’t have expected it to have had warranty outside of UK, let alone in a country that they’re not even readily available yet. I did the exact same thing when my iPhone 3GS, as this was having issues with the battery, and this was sent from Hong Kong. The serial number was from the “HK Batch” and I honestly didn’t expect it to be covered outside of HK, or even China for that fact. Yet, it was also covered worldwide, I checked this by changing the country selection to everyone available.

If I’ve learnt one thing today, it’s that people shipping iPhone 4 to other countries shouldn’t worry about voiding their warranty on the product at all, even if the product hasn’t hit store shelves yet, apparently .. you’re fully covered.

What I’m trying to work out however is when we’re going to see this iOS 4.0.1 upgrade. My iPhone 4, being in Australia and using a homemade Micro SIM cuts in and out of reception even without holding it in the “Death Grip” but just texting. It is very frustrating and this update can’t come quick enough. However, there are a lot of different opinions on this situation, both opposing – one being the issue stems from the actual hardware and the other software.

    Discuss.

  • Is It Really Worth $99 a Year?

I noticed that we at RazorianFly hadn’t actually covered MobileMe completely, so I have decided to take it on-board myself.

Being a fifteen year old, when I first got my iPhone $119.99 AUD seemed like a lot to be spending each year, but I dug into my pockets and finally bought MobileMe a few days back. To be honest, I’m amazed at how smooth the whole process is. From syncing all your emails, calendars and contacts, to being able to share amazing photo’s to either everyone or just a select few, and then to have the ability to locate your iPhone, iPod Touch and/or your iPad, it just tops the service off. On paper anyway.

I rushed to get home and start my subscription, mainly getting ready for the delivery of my iPhone 4 (you can read about that here). The main feature that sold it to me, Find my iPhone. I can track my iPhone everywhere it goes. This extra security is amazing, but how well does it really work? So I decided to take it for a spin on my iPhone 3G[s] and my iPad to locate it. In pinpoints my iPhone to the exact room I am sitting in! This is obviously through triangulation via satellite dishes, the things we only hear about in the movies. It is real, and it works to amazing accuracy.

Now, I’m not a very good photographer, but I sure do like sharing photo’s with my father, especially the ones around Adelaide that look amazing. So, Gallery was another big thumbs up for me. Setting my Gallery to private but having the ability to send it to my father, that is amazing. He can now share those thousands of photos he takes a year with me, all those experiences over the web. It still isn’t like being there, but now I can see what my dad has experienced when he travels.

Now, everyone knows MobileMe for its syncing with Contacts, Calendars, Email and iDisk. This is amazing, I was able to sync everything in less than five minutes! MobileMe now plays a huge task in making sure all my contacts (320 of them) are synced to my iPad, iPhone and MacBook. However, for these four options, you can use a service such as Google to do it all. For free. So, why do people still fork out $99 USD a year for MobileMe and why did I purchase it?

I purchased it mainly because I was getting everything ready for my iPhone 4. However, I had been looking at purchasing a subscription for months before. I have tried Gmail and all of that, and to be fair, they do I really great job, but MobileMe just does so much better! It’s seamless syncing, the ability to find a device anywhere in the world, being able to share photos and of course backup important files, it just seems an amazing user experience.

Although I have only had MobileMe for two days, I have fallen in love. It is just an overall perfect experience and something I am willing to pay for each year. Time will tell how well it works with the iPhone 4. I’ll post images up here as proof that it is the first iPhone 4 in Australia as soon as I have held it in my hands.

Until then, feel free to comment about your experiences with MobileMe and how it works with or against you.
