Vampire Origins is out now on the App Store ”“ $6.99
We have a brand new sponsor, Chillingo! Look out for this segment to be continued for months to come. Thanks guys!
It’s hard to believe that there is still an iPhone format out there after a week’s worth of iPad mania! Ironically this week has been one of the best weeks in terms of iPhone releases, in particular sequels. So for that reason all games this week will include a number in their title. For now I am going to stay focused on iPhone games for now as a majority of iPad games will just be universal, but over time if people want to see the best of both worlds then iPad-only games may be included in the future. Let me know by sending me a PM on the forums (Damon).
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 – $9.99
After a shock announcement on Tony Hawk’s Twitter about this game we have finally received the premier skating title on the iDevice. This game has been called the best skating game of all time, beating the many newer Tony Hawk titles. I have never played this game on the console, instead becoming addicted to THPS3 but I did have the pleasure of having this as my second most played game, behind Pokemon, on my GBA back in the day. This game seems to be exactly the same as my GBA version but with enhanced graphics for the more powerful device.
This is the fun game I remember, with huge environments, lots of skaters and a career mode that will take you so many hours to finish. The game requires you to complete goals to earn money, which can then be used to upgrade your skating stats. The game is played in short timed bursts, so knowledge of the track is vital to completing some goals. The only downside of this game are the hard controls, which haven’t had a smooth transition to the iPhone. Time will tell if the game can be finished with these controls, but for now this game can’t be passed up.
The Sims 3: World Adventures – $6.99
When The Sims 3 was released in June 2009 I absolutely loved the game. I never believed a portable version of one of my all-time favourite PC games would work, yet EA proved me wrong. This time they have released what I first believed to be sort of an expansion pack when in fact it’s pretty much an entirely new game. While the same basic Sims principles are in place, the whole world has been revamped with a new city, more locations and new clothes, furniture and looks. Everything you had in The Sims 3 is also included except they removed fishing.
Removing Fishing has made this game a lot more fulfilling because it means it is harder now to make money. This along with the ability to travel overseas to the locations Egypt, France and China gives you so much more to complete in this game. The graphics and smoothness is top notch once again, making for a perfect addition to the Sims franchise. This game will have you playing along for hours on end as you try and complete everything in the game. $6.99 is a superb price for this game and is worth a purchase, even if you have the original iPhone title.
Zenonia 2 – $4.99
Zenonia 2 is the sequel to my favourite iPhone RPG of all time. Gamevil has managed to create such an addictive game that managed to keep me coming back for many hours, a feat which is hard to pull off because the iPhone is such a casual device. The sequel follows the same style of gameplay as the original, yet has a brand new story with nearly 100 new quests and more customization. The character you choose will alter the storyline and your fighting style will also be different. So instead of 20 hours of gaming there is 80+ hours if your up to it.
A new PvP mode is also in Zenonia 2 that allows you to fight friends online. This is quite a bit of fun to play around with but doesn’t affect the storyline. This game is absolutely massive with over 150 maps and hundreds of items and clothing options available. The controls are fine most of the time except the D-Pad can get a bit hard to use, but it can be enlarged if your finding it hard to control. Zenonia 2 takes the best RPG on the App Store and takes it up a notch, making this a must buy for fans of the original and those wanting a long lasting game.
Bounce On 2: Drallo’s Demise – $3.99
Bounce On was a game I thoroughly enjoyed, making great use of the iPhone’s accelerometer. This game is what I would call halfway between Mario and Rolando, with the Rolando style of play but graphics more like a Mario sort of game. The sequel follows on with the same game style but has enhanced graphics and more cool levels and means of travel for your little red ball. Drallo’s Demise has also been made more user friendly making it easier for casual gamers to be able to advance in this game, as you don’t have to beat all levels like in the original.
There are over 100 keys available to earn, which unlock many many levels. If the original is anything to go by expect more levels to be added in the future. There are groovy power-ups and easy to use controls that make playing this game an absolute blast. The addictive stages are timed and leaderboards are available on the Plus+ network. Those wanting a game with easy levels to extremely difficult will find what they are after in Bounce On 2. This is a great casual game that will keep you continually returning. Good pick-up for $3.99.
Other Notable Releases this week Include:
Vampire Origins by Chillingo Ltd.
Skies of Glory: Battle of Britain by SGN
