Carrying on from our mini-series including 10 Gorgeously Designed iPhone Applications Part 1 and Part 2, we thought it only fair that the iPad get some of our attention too!

So, we went to work and came up with what we deem are 10 iPad applications which are truly App Store pioneers.

These selection of apps are apps which we think all other developers should look up to when choosing to design the user experience around their own apps.

The apps listed below have either already left their impression on the App Store, or are about to make an impression.

Note: This list is not ”˜ranked’ in any way.

1. Things

Things is a beautifully focused and amazingly intuitive task manager. Other todo applications either oversimplify or are too difficult to use. Things instead offers the perfect balance between ease of use and powerful features. Effortlessly manage to-dos, notes, due dates, and projects. A smart today list and the scheduling feature allow you to work as effectively as possible – every day.

2. Pocket Pond HD

Create relaxing ripples while you enjoy the sounds of nature. Interact with the fish – scare them, feed them, and watch their schooling behavior. It’s your own personal pond to cleanse your worries and free your mind.

3. Delivery Status touch

Delivery Status touch helps you keep track of all your packages, so you always know when they’re going to arrive. The main view shows the latest status of your packages, and counts down to the estimated delivery date. Tap a delivery for more information, and if you like you can view the shipping company’s web page, or see where your packages are on a map.

Delivery Status supports more than 25 services, including UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, TNT, Canada Post, City Link, Royal Mail, DPD, and many more. You can also track orders from Amazon, Apple, Adobe, and Google Checkout, even before they ship.

4. Gowalla

Gowalla is a remarkable way to share and discover eateries, coffeehouses, nightlife hotspots, hipster hangouts, retail meccas, famous landmarks, notable architecture, parks, museums and more. Everywhere you go.

Share your experiences through Gowalla with your Facebook and Twitter friends. Stamp your passport to earn rewards at the places you visit. Then discover and create new locations anywhere in the world with your iPhone.

5. The Early Edition

Finally – your own personal, daily newspaper! The Early Edition takes all of the news sources that you enjoy and presents their content in a format which is familiar, stylish and intuitive. Each time you collect news, the most recent articles from your source list are gathered into an edition for that day and then stored in Archives for later reference.

Skim through pages of article teasers or tap a headline to view the article in full screen mode. And if you want to share it, copy or email the link or send it to Instapaper for reading later. And if you’re someone who checks the news throughout the day, tap the ‘Fetch New’ button and the latest stories since your last fetch are added to the front of the paper.

6. Articles

Articles lets you easily read and discover Wikipedia Articles on your iPad. Just enter a search term and let Articles find the Wikipedia entry you are looking for. Use the integrated maps feature to learn about interesting places and historic events around your current location, or anywhere else in the world.

Or simply shake your device and let Articles find an entry for you.

7. Dizzy Pad HD

Developed by Ian Marsh (@eeen) of NimbleBit, Dizzypad is a one-tap platformer. Described by many as “Koi Pond meets Doodle Jump”, this game requires a huge amount of timing and skill as you make that all important leap from floating lilly pad to floating lilly pad.

Choosing from a range of different coloured frogs, the game sees you trying to navigate across a large pond, using the oncoming lily pads to aid you as your stepping stones. Unsurprisingly the goal of Dizzypad is pretty simple. Keep leaping from each lily pad as fast as you can for as long as you can. But there’s a catch! ”¦ those lilly pads? They move. Actually, they spin. Yeah .. Fast. With your projected leap direction marked with a light blue arrow attached to each of these spinning lily pad, you’ll aim to judge when is just the right moment to make that death-defying flying departure!

8. Goby

Goby helps you find fun things to do. Whether you’re traveling across the country (currently US only) or staying close to home this weekend, Goby’s got you covered with over 350 categories of things to do in every city and town in the US!

Ӣ Goby can detect your current location or you can manually select a location to search
”¢ Tap once to browse what’s going on near you today or this weekend, or use advanced search
Ӣ In the Advanced Search, just enter What, Where and When into the easy to use interface
Ӣ Congratulations, you now have access to millions of cool things to do and places to go!

9. Todo

Appigo Todo for iPadâ„¢ is the most connected iPad app and makes task management fun and simple. Synchronize with iCal, Outlook, or Toodledo.com. Get Appigo Todoâ„¢ for your iPhone or iPad touch and have access to your tasks anywhere.

I find it insulting that you include “Pocket Pond HD” which is clearly a rip-off of someone else's IP. One of the first apps for iPhone and still one of the best is “Koi Pond” which is an excellent app, regularly updated and widely admired. The creator of Koi Pond is making an iPad version as well. This “Pocket Pond HD” is seemingly just a less attractive copy of that and shouldn't be rewarded with even a cursory nod, let alone a rave review.
