We just got a tip from Twitter user @Mohsin_M which seems to suggest Apple may today be giving customers in the UK a FREE Apple bumper case for their new iPhone 4 if they’re bold enough to walk into an Apple Store and complain.
The new bumper case which follows the company’s recent attempt at designing their own case for the iPad, is basically a piece of coloured flex rubber which stretches itself around the outer ring of the phone. This in turn is reported to solve the “Death Grip“ issue in its entirety, due to the case being specifically designed to completely cover the metal band which now acts as the device’s GSM antenna.
Today, a thread over on HotUKDeals started by user ‘fredsmithers’ seems to suggest UK users are actually having success in winging a FREE Apple bumper case from the company, by simply complaining to the staff of the death grip issue.
Apparently, according to a BBC 5Live interview today, iPhone 4 users who go to the Apple store to complain about the ‘left hand lost signal phenomenon’ are being given a free Apple Bumper to alleviate the problem.
Post on this thread if you have success in getting one.
I did wonder when first seeing the bumper exactly why it had been designed to only protect the edge. And, AFAIK, it’s the first time Apple have offered a ‘case’ for sale with a device.
This suggests that Apple was pre-empting a known problem.
These bumpers retail for £25, so are not at all bad for free
That said, Apple are sure to catch onto this soon, so let us know if any of you have any success in snagging one for yourself!
